Research On The Relationship Between Energy Consumption And Economic Growth In The Five Northwestern Provinces

Since the reform and opening up,under the guidance of the "Belt and Road" construction policy,the five northwestern provinces(Shanxi Province,Gansu Province,Qinghai Province,Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region)have experienced rapid economic growth,significantly increas-ed energy consumption,and increasingly severe problems such as energy shortage and environmental pollution.At present,the concept of green development is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people,and energy conservation and emission reduction have received extensive attention.In this context,taking the five northwestern provin-ces as the research object,it is of great significance to explore the interaction betwe-en energy consumption and economic growth,which is of great significance for the adjustment of energy consumption structure and sustainable economic development.Based on the panel data of energy consumption,factor input and economic growth in the five northwestern provinces from 1990 to 2019,the relationship betwe-en energy consumption and economic growth is studied by combining theory and empirical methods.Firstly,according to the economic growth theory,circular econo-my theory and ecological modern theory,the current situation of energy consumption and economic growth in the five northwestern provinces is explored,the panel vector autoregressive model(PVAR)is constructed,the generalized moment estimation is carried out,and the analysis methods of impulse response and variance decomposition are used to visually display the mechanism of energy consumption,factor input and economic growth.Then,the grey correlation model is used to explore the correlation between energy consumption structure and economic growth,and the relationship between different energy consumption types and economic growth is expounded.The research results show that: First,from the theoretical point of view,it can be seen that the consumption of natural gas and electricity in clean energy increases economic growth,while the increase of oil consumption in non-clean energy inhibits economic growth.Economic growth promotes the rise of various energy consumption,which has a more significant impact on oil consumption,and at the same time,the contribution rate of oil consumption to economic growth in energy consumption is relatively high,and the phenomenon of exchanging high pollution for economic growth needs to be solved;Second,from a quantitative point of view,it can be seen that the four main types of energy consumption and economic growth are significantly related,and the correlation degree is from largest to smallest: oil,electricity,coal,and natural gas.Finally,according to the research results,relevant suggestions are put forward for the optimization of energy consumption and economic development in the five northwestern provinces.
