An Empirical Study On The Relationship Between Energy Consumption And Economic Growth In Tianjin

Energy is the main driving force for economic and social development and has important strategic significance in the global economic system.With the vigorous development of society and economy,the requirement for energy in countries all over the world is on the increase,leading to the shortage of energy.With the gradually tense energy restriction,improving energy utilization efficiency,optimizing energy consumption structure,and promoting sustainable economic development have become the focus of attention of all countries in the world.The implementation of the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development" strategy has brought Tianjin into a critical period of economic development.The demand for energy is growing rigidly,and the energy constraints are more prominent.Therefore,through the empirical research on the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Tianjin,this paper explores the Cointegration and causality between energy consumption and economic growth in Tianjin,decomposes and analyzes the factors affecting the total energy consumption,and then provides corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for the future energy development direction of Tianjin,which has certain practical significance.Firstly,this paper combs the correlative documents at home and abroad,and summarizes the study methods and perspectives in the documents.Secondly,based on the data of Tianjin from 2000 to 2019,this aiticle makes a descriptive analysis on the current development of energy consumption and economic growth.Firstly,it analyzes the present conditions of Tianjin’s GDP,per capita GDP,total energy consumption and its structure,and then analyzes the quantitative relationship between them by calculating the elasticity coefficient of energy consumption and energy consumption intensity.Thirdly,energy consumption is introduced into Cobb Douglas production function,a three variable production function model is established,and the relationship between total energy consumption,coal consumption,crude oil consumption,natural gas consumption,power consumption and economic growth is studied by using measurement methods such as cointegration analysis,error correction model and causal analysis.Finally,the influencing factors of Tianjin’s total energy consumption are divided into population size,economic output,energy structure and energy intensity by logarithmic average Di index method(LMDI),so as to understand the influence degree of these four factors on the total energy consumption.The results show that the total energy consumption of the secondary industry in Tianjin is the largest,but the GDP created by the secondary industry is far less than that of the tertiary industry.In the total energy consumption and its structure,there is a cointegration relationship between total energy consumption and economic growth and a uni-direction causality from economic growth to total energy consumption;There is also a cointegration relationship between coal consumption,electricity consumption and economic growth.Economic growth is the Granger cause of coal consumption,power consumption is the Granger cause of economic growth,and there is neither cointegration nor causality between crude oil consumption and natural gas consumption and economic growth.Among the four influencing factors,economic output has the greatest positive impact on the total energy consumption,followed by population scale,and finally energy-resource structure.Only energy consumption strength can restrain the increase of total energy consumption.According to the above research results,this article puts forward the corresponding suggestions and countermeasures:(1)Adjust the industrial structure.On the one hand,Tianjin should adjust the interior of the secondary industry,on the other hand,it should vigorously support the tertiary industry.(2)Adjust the structure of energy consumption types.Control the consumption of fossil energy such as coal,vigorously develop clean energy such as natural gas and electricity,especially electric energy,and strengthen the role of electric energy in promoting economic growth.(3)Raise awareness of energy conservation.Tianjin should improve the energysaving awareness of enterprises and residents,and let the Tianjin municipal government,enterprises and residents j oin the city’s energy-saving activities,so as to create a good environment for Tianjin to carry out energy conservation and emission reduction.(4)Reduce energy consumption intensity.Encourage energy technology innovation and improve energy efficiency.
