| In 2013,the major initiative of jointly building the “Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21 st Century Maritime Silk Road” was put forward,which opened the prelude to my country’s joint construction of the “Belt and Road”.The “Belt and Road”initiative upholds the principle of extensive consultation,joint contribution and shared benefits,adheres to the goal of mutual benefit and common development,and actively promotes connectivity.As an important transportation channel for my country to serve the “Belt and Road” initiative,the China-Europe Railway Express plays an important role in promoting urban export trade.In terms of theoretical analysis,this paper applies international trade theory and new economic geography theory to analyze the important role of China-Europe Railway Express as a transportation infrastructure in reducing transportation costs or trade costs.In terms of empirical analysis,using the data of 280 cities from 2004 to 2019,this paper uses the multi-period double difference model(DID)and the spatial Durbin model to empirically test the local growth effect and spatial spillover effect of the opening of the China Railway Express on urban export trade.Combining the city data with the customs data,the impact of my country Railway Express on China’s export trade with regions along the “Belt and Road” was further investigated from the “city-country” two-dimensional level.This paper mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)China Railway Express has significantly promoted the export trade of various cities in my country,which has a local growth effect.(2)This local growth effect is asymmetrical in terms of city location and city size.The China-Europe Railway Express has significantly promoted the growth of export trade in central and western cities,but has no significant impact on the trade growth of eastern cities;the China-Europe Railway Express has a significant impact on small cities The impact of export trade growth is the largest,followed by medium-sized cities,and the impact on export trade of large cities is small.(3)The opening of trains in surrounding areas will also promote the development of local urban trade,which proves that the opening of China-Europe trains has a spatial spillover effect on trade development.Specific studies have shown that the opening of the China-Europe Railway Express has obvious spillover effects on trade growth in the eastern and western regions.(4)Not only that,this paper further examines and finds that China-Europe Railway Express has significantly promoted my country’s export trade to regions along the “Belt and Road” through trade cost effects and financial subsidy effects,and the “Belt and Road” initiative has played a significant role in promoting the trade of China-Europe Railway Express.There is a positive adjustment effect.Based on the above conclusions,this paper gives the following policy suggestions:(1)Strengthen the orderly and effective operation of China-Europe Railway Express,and continue to play the role of China-Europe Railway Express in promoting urban export trade.(2)Strengthen the docking of China-Europe freight trains with the “Belt and Road” initiative,carry out cooperation in infrastructure construction,and further release the time-space compression effect of trains.(3)Optimize the construction of the hub nodes of the China-Europe Railway Express,accelerate the formation of an organization mode of “combination of stems and branches,hub distribution”,and release the gathering and dispersing effect of hub cities.The China-Europe Railway Express should use the node cities as the gathering points and the train transportation as the flow channel to realize the transformation from “point-to-point” to “hub-to-hub”,and release the function of gathering and distributing import and export trade to the greatest extent.(4)Implement the combination of China Railway Express and international inland ports to create a new highland for inland cities to open up to the outside world.(5)Focus on the development of a group of more advanced China-Europe freight trains,and enhance their ability to radiate and drive,“get rich first and then get rich later”. |
