The combination and collision of the digital economy with the new generation of digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence has created a new digital era.In 2016,the State Council issued the Guiding Opinions of the State Council on Deepening the Integrated Development of Manufacturing and the Internet,marking that China’s traditional manufacturing industry is about to usher in a new phase of digital transformation.As the benchmark of the manufacturing industry and an important part of China’s transportation field,the automobile manufacturing industry takes the lead in setting an example.However,due to the fact that the digital transformation is still in its infancy,most enterprises in the industry blindly carry out the transformation without a clear strategic route,which makes the transformation enterprises often face the problems of large digital talent gap and low level of digital investment,which hinders the digital transformation and even leads to a decline in performance.Therefore,in the context of digital transformation,which factors will affect the performance of manufacturing enterprises has become the focus of attention of scholars.Most of the existing literature discusses this issue from a single factor perspective,and few scholars explore it from the perspective of configuration.Based on the above,this paper selects the automobile manufacturing industry as a typical example to explore the combination of factors that play a positive role in enterprise performance in the digital transformation,and puts forward suggestions for the digital transformation of automobile manufacturing enterprises.This paper selects 22 A-share automobile manufacturing enterprises that have carried out digital transformation as the research object.First,it combs the relevant theoretical achievements related to digital transformation and enterprise performance with the help of literature research method,and then determines the main influencing factors based on the resource view theory,contingency theory and organizational change theory,including digital technology investment,digital business sector,enterprise scale,government support,and market competitiveness,Based on this,an analysis model based on the theoretical framework of TOE(technology organization environment)is constructed.Then,through the fsQCA(fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis)fuzzy set configuration analysis method,this paper analyzes the combination of factors that make enterprises produce high performance in the context of digital transformation,and selects representative cases to further illustrate,and finally draws the following conclusions:(1)Among the five influencing factors,there is no necessary condition for enterprises to produce high performance alone,and a single factor has a limited positive impact on the performance of automobile manufacturing enterprises;(2)There are three kinds of configuration results to achieve high performance of enterprises.One is technology-leading,the second is organization-leading,and the third is environment-driven;(3)Weichai Power,as a representative enterprise of "organization leading" strategy,further explained and verified the configuration.The innovation of this paper is to capture the hot topics of the times,use the fsQCA fuzzy set configuration analysis method to study the combination of factors that affect the performance of automobile manufacturing enterprises under the digital transformation from the perspective of configuration,and combine the conclusions of three configuration configurations to put forward suggestions from the perspectives of industry enterprises and government for the digital transformation of automobile manufacturing enterprises,This provides a reference for automobile manufacturing enterprises to achieve high performance in the overall promotion of digital transformation.
