| In the VUCA era,the construction industry is facing formidable obstacles and many complications are arising in the implementation of construction projects.Especially in recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic has made professionals in this field aware of the imminent need to build the resilience of construction projects.Fragmented production and confrontational management are common in construction projects, which make it challenging for construction firms to effectively respond to unexpected events. Thus, strengthening collaboration among participants and using complementary strengths to build resilience ability to cope with disruptions has become a trend. In this context, this study takes resilience as its core issue, investigating the specific dimensions and measurement of construction project resilience, exploring the antecedents and consequences of it from the perspective of stakeholder collaboration, and further investigates the moderating effect of project complexity.Firstly, this study conducts a systematic literature review to identify 12 essential elements of project resilience and categorizes it into three dimensions:preventive, response, and recover abilities, from a process perspective. Then,a measurement scale is constructed based on the dimension development.Data analysis is conducted on 138 valid questionnaires and the scale is examined through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The results find that the construction project resilience could be measured using the three dimensions and a total of 10 items. This study proposes research hypotheses based on the literature review to build empirical research model, employs questionnaire survey methods to collect data, and conducts data analysis using the PLS-SEM and bootstrap test technique based on 218 valid questionnaires. The analysis results indicate that stakeholder collaboration has a significant positive influence on the construction project resilience, and the construction project resilience has a significant positive influence on the project performance. In addition, the response ability and recover ability also act as a mediator between stakeholder collaboration and project performance, and project complexity weakens the positive influence on response ability as well as on recover ability. This study clarifies the dimensions and measurement of project resilience, and provides the measurement basis for the forward research on project resilience; Moreover, this study proposes to build and improve resilience from the perspective of stakeholder collaboration, and further reveals the effect of resilience, enriching the relevant research on resilience in the field of construction projects and providing a new perspective for the theoretical analysis of resilience. At the same time, the results of this study will help enhance the understanding of project resilience and provide theoretical guidance for project practitioners to build and improve resilience. |
