Abstract/Summary:
The planning and construction of Tokyo urban parks during the Meiji-Taisho period went through a process of development from scratch. It is from germination to perfection.According to the planning subject and the main planning decrees, this process can be divided into the following three stages:The first is the the Daijo-daijin period(1873-1888),when the first park plan of Tokyo was born and the five traditional shrines and temples were set as parks. The next period was the Tokyo Urban Reconstruction Period(1888-1919),when the park plans for the Tokyo Urban Renewal Program were originally of a high standard and large scale, but were cut back due to budgetary problems, resulting in far less than expected construction results. Finally, during the Urban Planning Period(1919-1926),the head of the government gradually developed a comprehensive and systematic plan for the revival of Tokyo parks in order to achieve the goal of post-earthquake recovery after the Great Kanto Earthquake.Under this plan, three major parks and 52 minor parks were built. As the idea of parks spread from top to bottom, the planning standards and laws related to Tokyo urban parks were established, thus solving the most difficult problems of land and financial resources in the construction of parks at the institutional level, and laying a solid foundation for the construction of Tokyo urban parks at that time and even afterwards.
