The paper takes Qingdao urban design in a colonial period as the research object,performs overall and systematic research on aspects of politics,economy,culture,architecture as well as urban planning and design respectively,digs the historical and cultural values and provides reference for modern urban construction.Qingdao is one of the most characterized city in the modern history of China,and the special historical background of Qingdao has great significance for research of planning and development of colonial cities in China.Qingdao develops to one of the most important port cities in China from a small fishing village during history over 100 years.Since Jiaozhou bay is occupied by Germany in 1897,Qingdao is governed firstly by Germany for as long as 17 years and forms an urban spatial structure and an urban style initially;then Qingdao goes through a Japanese occupation period,and the city is shifted to a port city giving priority to textile and other light industries and supplemented by tourism;later,Qingdao experiences an urban planning and development period with the regime changing from the Beiyang Government to the Nanking National Government until liberation in 1949.The urban planning and construction of Qingdao in each period reflect the social background and ideology of the specific historical period and are results of dialectical unity between theory and practice as well as between whole and part.The paper takes Qingdao urban planning and late development in the colonial period as clues,objectively analyzes the process of Qingdao for changing to the modern city from the small fishing village over 100 years ago,contributes to thinking of people about construction planning of the modern city and provides historical reference for urban planning and development in modern times.
