In recent years the state has been paying more and more attention to the study of architectural heritage, and Tibetan Buddhist architecture is an important part of Inner Mongolia’s regional architectural heritage, but at present most of the research on it is focused on the body of the building, especially the temple building, and there is still a relative lack of in-depth research on the topic of architectural layout and form. The study of the layout of buildings is still relatively scarce.Against the above background, this paper takes the layout of Tibetan Buddhist temples in Inner Mongolia as the research topic, takes the existing Tibetan Buddhist temple complexes in Inner Mongolia built from the Ming Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty as the research object, and through the methods of documentary research, historical research, graphical analysis, and field survey, etc.,takes the Tibetan Buddhist religious cosmology as the main line to sort out and summarize the layout forms of the existing Tibetan Buddhist temples in Inner Mongolia, and summarizes the general characteristics of each layout type. The layout forms are systematically classified and summarized, and the general characteristics of each layout type are summarized. From three aspects: planar space, vertical space and contextual place, the typical temples of each layout type are analyzed in terms of spatial orientation, specification level, hierarchical order, composition imagery and other angles for religious cosmology;finally, the religious influence behind the layout appearance of Tibetan Buddhist temples in Inner Mongolia is sorted out from the perspective of religious cosmology space, revealing its essence and summarizing the different manifestations of Inner Mongolia region. In the end,we will examine the religious influences behind the layout of Inner Mongolia Tibetan Buddhist temples from the perspective of religious cosmology, and reveal their essence. The study shows that the overall layout of temples in Inner Mongolia presents six basic layout forms: free,center-encircled,single-axis symmetrical,single-axis free,multi-axis parallel and multi-axis free, which are closely related to the transmission path of Tibetan Buddhism, and the spiritual core of which is the religious cosmology. Each type of layout temple in the choice of site, the temple layout, terrain elevation, building volume and the overall space to create the imagery of the context and the spirit of the place, etc.are to varying degrees with the religious cosmology consistent with the hierarchy, gathered in the center, symmetry and balance,multi-layered overlapping characteristics. The religious worldview is the spiritual leader of the diverse layout forms in Inner Mongolia, and is the original kernel behind all the surface forms. It provides an entry point for the study of the layout of Tibetan Buddhist temples in Inner Mongolia with a religious cosmology;it also provides a theoretical supplement for the establishment of the value system of Mongolian regional architectural heritage.
