For a long time, scholars’ understanding of the architectural form of Han Buddhism has been merging with the layout pattern of palaces in ancient China. But this traditional cognition neglects the influence of religion itself on religious architecture, that is,the influence of Buddhism’s order on Buddhist architecture. The order of Buddhism itself exists in the space structure depicted by many classic Buddhist classics. These classics depict in detail a rigorous and clear-cut system of cosmic space places, and show us a large, orderly Buddhist world. The same pursuit of order between Buddhist cosmic space and real Buddhist architecture provides a new way of thinking for the study of Buddhist architectural layout, that is,from the cosmological level. In view of the existing research on the cosmology of Buddhist architecture, there is no specific research on Chinese Buddhist architecture. On the one hand,it concentrates on the graphicalization of the cosmic model in Buddhist scriptures. On the other hand,it concentrates on the study of the dominant cosmology of Tibetan Buddhist architecture. This paper will control the scope of research in the Northern Dynasty during the first peak development period of Buddhism in China. For the research object,it is divided into two aspects: Buddhist architecture and Buddhist cosmology. In terms of Buddhist architecture,it is divided into two types: the city temple and the cave temple. In terms of the Buddhist cosmology,it is divided into two types: the Sumeru cosmic model and the virtual space constructed by the popular Zen view of the Northern Dynasties. The research method is based on historical documents and existing building examples, supplemented by archaeological data and graphical research. From the perspective of architecture, interdisciplinary cross-disciplinary research is carried out by multidisciplinary studies such as religion, imagery, and aesthetics. For the tower-centered city temple,it has established a figurative connection with the Buddhist Sumeru cosmic model. The same connection medium acts and the same spatial layout, reflecting its influence of the city temple on the Sumeru universe model. At the same time, the religious intention of the "Pillar of the Universe" possessed by the stupa and Sumeru mountain also strengthens this influence. For the cave temple, from the perspectiveof the relationship between space and religious cosmology, selected Central-pillar cave establishes an abstract connection with the virtual four-dimensional Buddhist universe celebrated in the Zen.That is to say,in the process of worshiping in the Central-pillar cave, monks and follow the law of meditation. In the end, they gradually felt the illusory boundless space of Buddhism in the limited space of the entity.
