For some time now,the society has been paying more attention to children with cancer. The government and non-governmental forces have been working together to solve the contradiction between high expectations for treatment and the heavy burden on families. The documentary Scorching Sun,which was released in 2020,triggered the author to think. After multiple investigations and studies, the author came across the organization Mask Angel Half-way House, and immediately started fieldwork. The author finds that there are problems in the spatial design of this temporary shelter initiated by the non-governmental forces: it only emphasizes the institutionalization and functionality of the space itself, and although it meets the basic living needs of the recipients,it fails to fully consider the housing environment and the recipients’ well-being due to the lack of funds and energy.Taking the design practice of the C C CENTER for children with cancer and their families in Wu Jia Lane,Hefei,as a clue, the author conducts an in-depth analysis on the living space status of the assistance center for children with cancer and their families, represented by the Mask Angel Half-way House. This paper uses the Double-Diamond model as the main technical route, and adopts literature research, case study, comparative analysis,non-participant observation, interviews and other auxiliary methods to focus on the physical and psychological needs and daily activities of the people, and to investigate the relationship between social group activities and families of children with cancer, and the dependency relationship between the caregivers and the cared for in families of children with cancer.Based on this research, the author proposes design strategies for health promotion of children with cancer and their family members, creation of inclusive spaces, and enhancement of social assistance benefits. The goal is to create a closed-loop care model of accommodation, food and leisure, and ward companionship by means of inclusive space design,so as to help families of children with cancer heal and return to society.
