Research On The Architectural Characteristics And Modernity Evolution Of The Lanzhou Modern Northwest Mansion

During the Anti-Japanese War in modern China,due to the influence of the Nationalist government’s political policy shifting to the inland,the modern architecture of Lanzhou,an inland city in northwest China,ha s undergone a transformation from a traditional mo del to a modern model.As the first modern hotel architecture built in Lanzhou during this period,the Lanzhou Modern Northwest Mansion is one of the important modern architectural heritages during the Anti-Japanese War.The architecture was first built in 1943,supervised by the Nationalist government,designed by Lei Wai Pask,an architect of Shanghai Xingye Architects,and constructed by Taofuji Construction Factory,which mastered modern concrete construction technology,and was operated by China Travel Service that pioneered modern tourism in China.After the architecture is completed,it will not only become a public architecture for major reception in Lanzhou,but also become an important landmark of the city.In 1950,the Northwest Mansion was rebuilt on the original site by Ren Zhenying and others with reference to the original architectural drawings.The thesis takes the modern Northwest Mansion as the research object,and its historical traceability,architectural characteristics,modernity evolution,and protection strategies as the research content,and adopts research methods such as literature research,field research,and micro-historical narratives,aiming to enrich the theoretical system of Lanzhou’s modern architecture research.The thesis is divided into three parts.The first part is the basic research on the Northwest Mansion,which is mainly divided into historical traceability research and architectural characteristic research.The historical traceability research is to explore the modern social background,historical background and relevant construction figures of the construction of the Northwest Mansion based on the existing historical materials and documents,and to excavate the reasons for the preparation and construction experience of the modern Northwest Mansion;The architectural characteristic research focuses on the analysis of the architectural characteristics of the Northwest Mansion,which was first built in1943 and rebuilt in 1950,and compares the similarities and differences between the two constructions to reveal the architectural picture of the architectural heritage of the Northwest Mansion in a specific historical period.The second part is to explore the modernity dissemination and modernity evolution process of the Northwest Mansion in the development of modern hotel architectures in our country.In the spatial dimension,through the comparative study of the Northwest Mansion and the modern hotel architectures in different regions in the same period,it is revealed that the modern dissemination of modern hotel architectural ideas presents the consistency of rational thinking,the lag of dissemination,the flexibility of regionalization and the stepped nature of modern architectural styles.In the time dimension,through the comparative study of the Northwest Mansion and the hotel architectures in different periods in the same area,it reveals the modernity evolution of modern hotel architectural thought in Lanzhou area,showing the transplantation of free plan layout,the introduction of modern social functions,emergence of dynamic flow spaces,the grafting of modern architectural structures and the hybridization of Chin ese and Western architectural styles.The third part is the research on the evaluation and protection strategy of the architectural heritage of the Northwest Mansion.The first is to determine the protection and utilization value of the architectural herit age of the Northwest Mansion.Secondly,through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods,using Yaaph tomographic analysis and Excel data statistics,a comprehensive and scientific value judgment is made on the architectural heritage of the Northwest Mansion,and it is proposed that it has a better potential in the "regeneration" of the architecture and outstanding features in the protection of human history.When formulating corresponding value definition standards and protection strategies for the Northwest Mansion,it is suggested that attention should be paid to the sustainable development of the architecture and the degree of adhesion to urban development needs.The research on the value evaluation system of the Northwest Mansion can provide a tentative study for the value evaluation system research of the same type of modern hotel architectures.
