At this stage,global economic integration is deepening and the position of China’s auto industry in the international arena is undergoing profound changes.Up to design and development,down to after-sales service,there are numerous upstream and downstream enterprises,which are the industrial chain of human capital cultivation,parts production and assembly,marketing and training services,etc.Bringing huge growth to GDP,there is no doubt that automotive industry has become the pillar industry for GDP growth in most industrial countries in the world.Germany’s Industry 4.0 shows its eternal pursuit of smart manufacturing in the field of manufacturing,especially in the automotive industry.After China joined WTO,the production and sales of automobiles have been increasing.In 2009,China’s auto industry produced a total of 1.39 million units and sold 1.33 million units,capturing the first place in both auto production and sales in the automotive world.Since then,China’s auto industry has been booming,and by 2018,China’s auto production and sales ranked first in the world for ten consecutive years.It can be seen that China’s auto industry has made great development in terms of sales since 2009,does the quality also have a qualitative progress?At present,China’s local automobile enterprises are developing well,for example,Chery Automobile has always been the first in the number of Chinese passenger car exports in these 16 years,and the results in the number of patents are also striking;Geely Automobile has once become the world’s top 500 since the acquisition of Volvo,showing the rise of Chinese automobile enterprises.Therefore,continuously improving the international competitiveness of Chinese auto enterprises will become an increasingly important research direction.Throughout the current research,scholars have found that most of them use macro industry data to conduct research related to international competitiveness,while for enterprise international competitiveness,most scholars either use the evaluation method of enterprise international competitiveness to study the influencing factors of enterprise international competitiveness or measure the international competitiveness of enterprises by establishing an evaluation index system.This paper combines the previous studies and overcomes the shortcomings of the previous ones,and analyzes the international competitiveness of automobile enterprises from both positive and negative aspects,and measures the international competitiveness of enterprises by using a large amount of enterprise micro data,and also conducts quantitative and empirical research on the influencing factors of the international competitiveness of enterprises.The main research contents of this paper are as follows.Through reading relevant literature,the concept,evaluation indexes and measurement methods of enterprise international competitiveness as well as the enhancement mechanism of enterprise international competitiveness are sorted out,and the innovation points and shortcomings of this paper are proposed.Then,the international competitiveness of enterprises is split,and the important factors that affect the international competitiveness of automobile enterprises are analyzed from two aspects of internationalization and enterprise competitiveness,namely,human capital,technology research and development,cost management,labor productivity and government subsidies,and other theoretical contents.Then,starting from the definition of the international competitiveness of enterprises and combining the research results of scholars,an evaluation index system of the international competitiveness of Chinese automobile enterprises is established in four aspects,namely,profitability,development,products and internationalization,and the scores of the international competitiveness of 118 Chinese listed automobile enterprises are measured.Next,empirical research analysis was conducted with the above measurement results as explanatory variables and the influencing factors(cost rate,R&D cost,labor productivity,years of education per capita,and government subsidies)as explanatory variables,and it was concluded that the cost rate was negatively correlated with the international competitiveness of enterprises,and the remaining four influencing factors were positively correlated with the international competitiveness of Chinese automotive enterprises.Based on the results of the theoretical analysis and empirical tests,strategies to improve the international competitiveness of Chinese listed automotive enterprises are given at the enterprise and national levels.First,to improve the ability of auto enterprises to conduct independent R&D and form their own brands;second,the government to implement public policies to form the scale advantage of auto industry;third,to strengthen the construction of quality supervision system and improve after-sales service.In terms of research content,the data used in the empirical study of this paper are all micro data of enterprises,which is innovative for analyzing the international competitiveness of China’s automobile industry.There are also shortcomings in this paper,such as in the process of empirical analysis,the empirical results are not perfect due to the lack of data,not in place and the difference of statistical caliber,and the authors’ limited ability to give more in-depth and targeted professional methods and suggestions to improve the international competitiveness of China’s auto enterprises based on the empirical results.
