Urbanization is the important path to achieve socialist modernization and holds significant importance in establishing a new development pattern and promoting common prosperity.General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized in the report of the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that "we should promote a new type of urbanization centered on people, and accelerate the urbanization of the agricultural population" and "based on urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas,we should establish a coordinated development pattern of large, medium, and small cities, and promote urbanization construction with county towns as important carriers." These major deployments have provided important guidance for promoting the new type of urbanization in the new development stage.Against the backdrop of carbon neutrality and peak carbon emissions, carbon reduction has become an inevitable trend. The new type of urbanization is not only of great significance for carbon emissions reduction but also plays a significant role in the intensive use of urban land. This relationship is particularly notable in China’s western regions.Whether the three systems of urban development-land intensification-carbon emission develop in a coordinated manner and what are the main hindering factors. In this paper,we will construct a coupled coordination degree model and an obstacle degree model oriented to the two problems, and use Arcgis spatial analysis method and entropy value method to deeply study the new urbanization level, land intensive utilization level and carbon emission level of 16 cities in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration and the coupled coordination relationship among the three systems, and analyze the main obstacle factors affecting the coordinated development of cities,so as to promote the peak carbon emissions of urban agglomeration and advance the synergistic development of the three systems, which would provide the basis of evaluation and decision support. The results show that:(1)The new urbanization, land intensification, and carbon emissions systems in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration have achieved a basic level of coordination(CCD≥0.4).During the period from 2010 to 2020,there were 9 cities with a moderate level of coupling coordination, with an average coupling coordination degree greater than or equal to 0.5,accounting for 56.25% of the total. There were 7 cities with a general level of coupling coordination, accounting for 43.75% of the total. However,in the past 10 years, the level of coupling coordination among cities has shown significant fluctuations, indicating that the three systems in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration are still in the process of integration and coordination.(2)The spatial pattern characteristics of coupling coordination in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration have become increasingly prominent over time.In 2010,the spatial pattern exhibited a dispersed pattern, with Chengdu and Chongqing showing a general level of coordination,Ya’an being in a state of imbalance, and the other13 cities showing a general level of coordination. In 2015,the spatial pattern shifted to an east-high-west-low and north-high-south-low pattern.Moderate coordination was observed in Chongqing and Chengdu, while Guang’an,Suining,Nanchong,Neijiang, and Zigong showed a general level of coordination.Mianyang,Deyang,Dazhou,Ziyang,Ya’an,Meishan,Leshan,Yibin, and Luzhou exhibited a lower level of coordination.By 2020,the spatial pattern evolved into an east-high-west-low development pattern, with moderate coordination observed in Chongqing,Zigong,Chengdu, and Yibin. The other 13 cities remained in a general level of coordinated development.(3)Cities are classified into four categories according to their coordinated development and carbon emission levels: High Emission-Medium Coordination(I),Low Emission-Medium Coordination(II),High Emission-General Coordination(III),and Low Emission-General Coordination(IV).It also proposes The corresponding four development models are: intensive low-carbon stable development model, urban resource intensive development model, comprehensive promotion development model, and distinctive low-carbon industrial development model.development model, and the characteristic low-carbon industry development model.(4)Promoting the new type of urbanization is conducive to the coordinated and sustainable development of urban systems. The cities with higher levels of new urbanization development(Chengdu,Chongqing and Zigong)also have higher degrees of land intensive use.The cities with higher levels of new urbanization development(Chengdu,Chongqing and Zigong)also have higher degrees of intensive land use,and the average coupling coordination is medium. The average coupling coordination degree is moderate. The new urbanization development provides sufficient development cost and low carbon development guarantee for urban land intensive use.The new urbanization development provides sufficient development cost and low carbon development guarantee for the intensive use of land in cities, therefore, promoting the new urbanization construction of cities will promote the coupled coordination and sustainable development of urban systems. Therefore, promoting the new urbanization construction of cities will promote the coupled coordination and sustainable development of urban systems.(5)Carbon emission is the main factor limiting the coordinated development of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration system.Among the factors affecting the coordinated development of cities The most prominent obstacle factor affecting the coordinated development of cities is the carbon emission index, which indicates that the carbon emission factor hinders the coordinated development of cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration to different degrees. This indicates that the carbon emission factor hinders the coordinated development of cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration to different degrees, and the main hindering effects are concentrated in the core cities(Chengdu and Chongqing)and high-energy-consuming cities(Deyang and Mianyang).
