In recent years, while the development of tourism has brought economic benefits to society, the frequent occurrence of environmental damage to destinations caused by tourists’ inappropriate behaviors has had a serious impact on the sustainable development of tourism destinations. The willingness of tourists to take the initiative to implement environmentally responsible behavior of tourists is a key factor in solving this problem. However, exploring the factors influencing the environmentally responsible behavior of tourists is the key to motivating them to implement environmentally responsible behavior.Through literature review,it was found that tourists’ perceived value, awe and place attachment are the key factors that motivate environmentally responsible behavior. Therefore, this study incorporates these three factors into the conceptual model of environmentally responsible behavior of tourists in desert-type scenic areas. This paper presents an empirical study from a cognitive and affective dual-driven perspective, using the Dunhuang Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring Scenic Area as a case study, and using tourists in this scenic area as research subjects.First,we use questionnaires to obtain research data, then use structural equation modeling to explore the influence paths of tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior, and finally, based on the empirical research results,we aim to improve tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior and finally propose suitable countermeasures for environmental management in the scenic area to promote the sustainable development of desert-type scenic areas.Based on SOR(stimulus-organism-response)theory,tourism sustainability theory and awe prototype theory, this paper constructs an initial conceptual model of environmental responsibility behavior of tourists in desert-type scenic areas, and uses structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses of the initial conceptual model through the research data of 350 tourists in the Moonlight Spring scenic area of Ming Sha Mountain. The relationship between perceived value and awe on tourists’ environmental responsibility behavior was further explored, and the mediating role of place attachment in the model was also analyzed. The findings show that(1)perceived value has a significant positive effect on tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior.(2)Each of the five dimensions of perceived value has a positive influence on it,in descending order of service value, cost value, environmental value, facility value, and emotional value.(3)There is a significant positive effect of awe on tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior.(4)The total effect of perceived value on tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior is 0.247,while the total effect of awe on tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior is 0.217.(5)Perceived value positively influences tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior through local attachment.(6)Awe positively influences tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior through place attachment, which means that the mediating effect of place attachment in the model is confirmed.Combining the findings of this study and the actual development status of the Moonlight Spring scenic area in the Mingsha Mountain, this paper suggests that desert-type scenic areas should enhance tourists’ perceived value, inspire tourists’ awe and cultivate tourists’ place attachment in future scenic environment management.
