Demonic Costume Description And Digital Innovation Design Expression Of Journey To The West

This paper attempts to study the textual depiction of demons costumes in the novel Journey to the West,a 100-chapter novel which was written in the mid-Ming period by Wu Chengen,as a documentary support.Then summarize and sort out the general development of demon images in the process of completing the novel,and the role of demon costume depiction in the characterization of the novel.Moreover,taking specific demons as the objects,the costume colors,fabrics,shapes and patterns corresponding to their costume depiction words are explored.As the novel Journey to the West was transformed into image transmission during the dissemination process,the costumes of the demons in relative illustrations,murals and statues in the Ming and Qing dynasties are analyzed and summarized,as well as that in modern times.In addition,based on the original clothing description,through modern 3D modeling digital technology and the research content of this paper,creative designs are made for the costumes of the demons in Journey to the West.The depiction of demon costumes in Journey to the West comes from speaking and singing literature and it has obvious stylized regulations and expresses its meaning through deity and combines emptiness and reality.The costume colors follow the demon archetype and drive the novel’s storyline.In the process of writing the book,the demon costumes are influenced by the principle of "three no-wear" in the drama,showing the historical time of dislocation and the seasonal time characteristics of contradiction.The costumes contain the religious ideas of "Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism",alluding to the political behavior of "advocating the Tao and destroying Buddha" in the Ming Dynasty,and the depiction of female demonic costumes presents obvious historical limitations.The illustrations of the Ming and Qing dynasty novels in Journey to the West depict and symbolize the demon costumes,which are deliberately omitted;The cave paintings are not limited by the size of the painting,and the costumes are very beautiful;The temple eaves pillars are carved symmetrically,and the demon costumes are modeled after local operas.In moderne films,television dramas and animes derived from Journey to the West,spectacle is the primary feature,and the shaping of demon costumes serves the plot.Based on the above research content,representative demon characters are selected,and innovative design expressions are made through 3D modeling software according to the original clothing text description,so as to show the costume style of novel characters with modern technical means.Using the literature retrieval method,all the research materials on the costume description and costume form culture of Journey to the West monster characters are collected,and the research framework and basic logic are constructed.Through the cultural relics investigation method and multiple mutual verification method,the relevant materials related to the demon costumes of Journey to the West and the images handed down from the Ming and Qing dynasties and modern film and television dramas are studied,and the documents,images and objects are combined with each other for reference,so as to grasp the development trend and context in the process of communication.Using the design practice method,specifically,using 3D modeling software to transform the textual description of the demon costumes in Journey to the West into innovative design results.On the one hand,it adjusts the imbalance in the study of the costumes of the characters in Journey to the West,which focuses on the protagonists and the demonic images focusing on their archetypal images.On the other hand,it can connect the development clues of the description of demon costumes in the novel,intertwining the era characteristics,cultural characteristics,and clothing characteristics reflected in the description of demon costumes with the existing research results.
