With increasing local people’s living standard and gradually westernized way of life,the factors that affect people’s clothing consumption has also changed.It is "film" which has been the most popular form of entertainment since the 20th century is one of the dominant factor.Filmdom and the fashion industry are closely linked and interacted with each other.The film is transfer medium of fashion that is fully presented.Classic film and television dress can not only lead the fashion trend,but affect people’s daily dressing,which in turn affects the clothing design.This article embarks from the historical background of western dress of film in a detailed and in-depth research,then explore the effect of middle of the 20th century western film costumes on the current clothing design from the perspective of clothing styles,clothing culture and design elements,and draw conclusions from this research that the film costume obtained design reuse value.On the one hand,the public tend to imitate dress because of the star effect which is vogue-vane to the designers,on the other hand,the designers attempt to express their design concept according to the film works,combining classical with popular,creating another kind of fashion.So digging the potential value of film costumes has important practical significance for design and production.
