As people become more and more health conscious, when going out into crowded environments,in order to reduce exposure to potentially harmful substances, they require clothing with a certain degree of barrier protection, thus acting as a protective barrier. The aim of this project is to take design methods and elements from protective clothing and apply them to everyday clothing, making them functional, safe, comfortable to wear, sustainable, easy to put on and take off,and economical to solve the contradiction between clothing and individual needs,so as to effectively meet the needs of people’s daily lives.Using field observations and on-site interviews, research was carried out on the current situation and design requirements of everyday protective clothing for outbound travel, constructing user profiles and mapping user journeys, and investigating the behavioural paths of travellers. Finally, the needs and problems of travellers in the process of travelling were collated, and the Kano model was used as a basis to categorise the functional requirements and to quantify the importance of users’ needs. In combination with the QFD model for quality function configuration, the design requirements for everyday protective clothing were obtained and the importance weights were calculated, finally the four user requirement modules were grouped into 12 corresponding design requirements and ranked into key design points, which will form the basis for the subsequent design solutions. The design incorporates the concepts of ’everyday’ and ’protective’ design, focusing on the choice of materials for everyday clothing with protective functions, and based on the results of the KANO-QFD model analysis, the design of everyday protective clothing to meet the needs of travellers is proposed. On the premise of following the design requirements of comfort and portability, the design of daily protective clothing for going out is optimally matched from form to content and from design to practice,so as to better penetrate into the functional field of daily protective clothing,in line with the functional characteristics of modern clothing design such as safety, health, comfort and beauty.
