Since the reform and opening up,China’s urbanisation process has gradually shifted from high speed development to a new stage of high quality development. However, while the rapid urbanisation process has promoted the development of various economic and social undertakings and improved the quality of life of urban and rural residents,it has also created numerous urban problems. As a new concept of urban development, urban resilience plays a crucial role in mitigating the negative impacts of natural disasters and social crises on cities, reducing the burden and loss of ecosystems, and promoting the sound functioning of cities. The improvement of urban resilience helps cities to effectively cope with various uncertain events in the process of new urbanisation, providing a favourable environment for urbanisation development, while the steady promotion of new urbanisation provides economic support for the development of urban resilience. As the twin-city economic circle in the Chengdu-Chongqing region is the most economically powerful large urban system in western China,an in-depth analysis of the development status of the level of urban resilience and the quality of new urbanisation development in the region,as well as the state of coupling and coordination between the two and the influencing factors, can help promote the high-quality development of the Chengdu-Chongqing region and realise the national strategic objectives. This paper takes 16 cities in the twin-city economic circle of Chengdu-Chongqing region as the research unit, and measures the level of urban resilience, new urbanisation and their coupled and coordinated development in the Chengdu-Chongqing region from 2010 to 2020using the CRITIC weighting method, comprehensive weighting model and coupled and coordinated model. Finally, based on the research results, corresponding countermeasures are proposed to promote the coordinated development of urban resilience and new urbanization in the Chengdu-Chongqing region. The main findings of the article are as follows:1.The level of urban resilience and the quality of new urbanisation development in the twincity economic circle in the Chengdu-Chongqing region have both increased from 2010 to2020,but the development of urban resilience is volatile;the quality of new urbanisation development in each city is generally higher than the level of urban resilience, with less intra-regional variation.2.The spatial distribution pattern of urban resilience levels is "high in the west and low in the east",and the quality of new urbanisation development shows the phenomenon of "double core prominence" in Chongqing and Chengdu, with the siphoning effect of the central cities on the neighbouring cities being greater than the radiation-driven effect.3.From 2010 to 2020,the degree of coupling and coordination between urban resilience and new urbanization in the twin-city economic circle in the Chengdu-Chongqing region gradually increases, with certain spatial divergence, showing the distribution characteristics of "high in the west and low in the east";the type of coupling and coordination undergoes a process of change from primary coordination to intermediate coordination, and the number of cities with lagging urban resilience increases.4.The factors influencing the coupled and coordinated development of urban resilience and new urbanisation vary from city to city, with the factors that are highly correlated accounting for most of the influence, among which the factor of morphological resilience has the greatest influence and requires special attention in the subsequent development, while the ratio of per capita consumption expenditure between urban and rural residents has the least influence.5.Based on the results of the above study, the six dimensions of urban resilience and population urbanisation are used to propose targeted countermeasures to promote the coordinated development of urban resilience and new urbanisation in the ChengduChongqing region.
