Research On The Application Of Jewel Beetle In Jewelry

Jewel beetle inlay is a jewelry decoration process combining gold corn and inlay,which first appeared in the poems of the Northern and Southern Dynasties,namely,"lotus flower with green bird,treasure corn inlay with gold insect" by Wu Jun,a poet of the Southern Liang Dynasty.The Wei and Jin dynasties continued to develop to the Ming and Qing dynasties.Unfortunately,there are no domestic physical remains or excavations related to it,and with the change of time,the traditional Jewel beetle inlay process in today’s jewelry art has long been obliterated.There are processes similar to that of Jewel beetle inlays in foreign countries.There are different artistic expressions and craftsmanship in different regional cultures.It can be seen from the actual Jewel beetles left in Japan,South Korea,and North Korea that they use the same decorative techniques for Jewel beetles.Thailand’s traditional craft,beetle wing art,is widely used in clothing,jewelry,and other areas.Nowadays,some foreign designers use the material of Jewel beetle sheath wings in jewelry design to create jewelry works that meet the aesthetics of the times.However,the current gold bug inlay jewelry only uses the material of Jewel beetles but does not combine with the gold corn process,which is different from the traditional gold bug inlay.Therefore,this paper hopes that the innovative design of Jewel beetle inlays in jewelry can be redeveloped through the study of craft practice.Through literature research,the paper summarizes the literature on Jewel beetle jewelry from the Wei-Jin-North and South Dynasties to the Qing Dynasty and sorts out the development of gold insect inlays in jewelry history.It concludes that the material for gold insect sheaths used in jewelry or object decoration in the Southern Dynasty may have originated from the Brahmi Kingdom at that time,which lays the foundation for the theoretical study of gold insects inlay jewelry.Through the experimental method,we conducted experiments on the process and materials.We carried out practical research on textures and colors to explore different forms of expression of Jewel beetle inlay and enhance the aesthetic value and connotation of Jewel beetle inlay jewelry in jewelry art.This paper is divided into five chapters.Through reading the theoretical research of relevant scholars,the paper deeply studies the history of Jewel beetle inlay,and carries out material experiments and creative practice.The first chapter explains the development status of gold bug inlay and analyzes the research value of gold bug inlays in jewelry art.The second chapter analyzes and explains the development history and production process of gold bug inlay,the third chapter explains the characteristics of gold bug material and the application fields of this material,and analyzes the expression form of gold bug inlay in jewelry through four aspects: overall decoration,imitation design,three-dimensional arrangement,and flat inlay.The fourth chapter starts with the creative practice of gold bug inlay through material experiments and explains the design idea and creation process.The fifth chapter concludes this research.Through the practical study of gold bug inlay jewelry,different ideas are provided to express Jewel beetle inlay jewelry so that this disappearing jewelry decorative art can be revived.
