With rapid urbanization and urban expansion,a series of problems such as ecological damage,environmental degradation and resource depletion have emerged one after another.Statistically speaking,the Yellow River basin has experienced a convergence of demands and pressures for economic transformation and quality development,making ecological protection and management one of the main development priorities.At present,the provinces and regions within the river basin are making continuous efforts to promote ecological protection and quality development strategies at a deeper level,but due to the differences in natural resources,economic and social development and spatial characteristics of the study areas,the problems affecting quality development vary from province to province.Therefore,in order to realize the green and sustainable development path,it is particularly necessary to study and analyze the comprehensive carrying capacity level of eight provinces along the Yellow River Basin in multiple dimensions.By combining the requirements of "we should firmly follow the road of civilized development featuring production development,rich life and good ecology in the new era" in the report of the 19 th National Congress,this paper takes eight provinces along the Yellow River as the research object,and selects 31 indicators from the three systems of "production space,living space and ecological space" to construct the evaluation index system of the comprehensive carrying capacity of cities along the Yellow River.The entropy weight method was used to study the level development of urban comprehensive carrying capacity from 2005 to 2020,and the coupled coordination degree model was used to analyze the coordinated development of production,living and ecological space in each province.Finally,the main obstacle factors affecting the urban comprehensive carrying capacity were diagnosed according to the obstacle degree model.The research results are as follows:(1)During the study period,the overall urban carrying capacity of the eight provinces along the Yellow River underwent a change from low to high carrying capacity level,with a positive development trend.Through further analysis of the comprehensive bearing capacity levels of cities in the eight provinces and regions in the four years of 2005,2010,2015 and 2020,it can be seen that there are obvious spatial differences,and the comprehensive bearing capacity of cities in Shandong Province has always ranked first in the study area.By 2020,the comprehensive carrying capacity of cities in the eight provinces along the Yellow River will be characterised as "medium level in the upper reaches,high level in the middle reaches and high level in the lower reaches.(2)During the study period,the carrying capacity of the“production-life-ecological space” in the eight provinces along the Yellow River generally has an upward trend,specifically,the carrying capacity of the production space has the regional characteristics of "strong in the east and weak in the west".The difference in living space carrying capacity is relatively small,with Shandong Province continuing to have a higher living space carrying capacity than the other provinces,while Gansu Province lags behind in the ranking of living space carrying capacity;in terms of ecological space carrying capacity,Henan Province continues to lag behind,which is related to the province’s special topography and climate impact.(3)During the study period,The internal coupling coordination level of the two subsystems and the overall coordination degree of the carrying capacity of "production-life-ecological space" in the eight provinces and regions of Yellow River show an upward trend,with "coupling and coordination level in the downstream region > coupling and coordination level in the midstream region > coupling and coordination level in the upstream region".By 2020,all the regions studied have achieved a development trend of moderate coordination or more.(4)During the study period,the ranking of the barriers to the overall system of urban carrying capacity in the Yellow River basin is from highest to lowest:Ecological space carrying capacity,living space carrying capacity,production space carrying capacity.The obstacle factors in the index layer are water resources per capita,water resources development and utilization ratio,arable land per capita,industrial wastewater and sulfur dioxide emission.Ten thousand health technicians in living space,collection of books in public libraries,ten thousand teachers in basic education,disposable income of urban residents;The gross regional product of production space,the proportion of the tertiary industry,the scale of infrastructure investment per unit of urban area and other indicators.In view of the above findings,this paper puts forward suggestions and countermeasures to improve the comprehensive carrying capacity of cities along the eight provinces of Yellow River from the following three aspects: strengthening the intensive utilization of water and land resources and improving environmental management capacity;creating a good living environment and improving the living standards of residents;and transforming the mode of economic development and promoting industrial transformation and upgrading.
