As an important spatial carrier for the coordinated development of the region and an important ecological barrier for China, the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin is of great significance in promoting China’s overall high-quality development and building a "double-cycle" development pattern. In recent years, its extensive economic development has brought about many problems, such as uneven development within the basin, huge ecological challenges and few central cities.Such being the case, guided by the national strategy of "ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin",this paper studies the spatial heterogeneity of the drivers of high-quality development in the Basin, with the priority on its specificity and complexity. The paper is expected to provide theoretical references for the Basin’s high-quality and sustainable development. The content of this study mainly includes: reviewing the existing literature, clarifying the concepts related to high-quality development and spatial heterogeneity, introducing the theories of the research. With that, the paper regarded 78 prefecture-level cities in the Yellow River Basin from 2006 to 2020 as research samples to construct a research model on the spatial heterogeneity of the drivers of high-quality development in the Basin. The paper specifically evaluates the level of high-quality development in the Basin by the super-efficient SBM model and the entropy weight method, analyzes the global spatial heterogeneity of the drivers by SDM model and the global Moran index model, analyzes the local spatial heterogeneity by spatial-temporal geographically weighted regression model, analyzes the contribution degree and interaction effect of the drivers. Finally, relevant research findings are reported, and corresponding policy recommendations are put forward. The results of the study show that: in terms of the global spatial heterogeneity of the impact of drivers on the level of high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, the global impact of the same driver varies considerably across space. The population size has a greater impact in the upper reaches of the Basin and a smaller impact on the whole, the middle reaches and the lower reaches. The level of human capital has a greater impact in the middle reaches. While geographic conditions and ecological carrying pressures have a more pronounced inhibiting effect on the middle and lower reaches of the Basin. From the local spatial heterogeneity of the impact of drivers on the high-quality development level in the Basin, the population size greatly influences Xinzhou,Lvliang,Linfen,Nanyang,Rizhao and Linyi. While the science and technology level has a greater impact on most of the Shandong Peninsula and Yulin,Shangluo,Ankang,Hanzhong and Changzhi, and a relatively smaller impact on Xinzhou,Lvliang,Linfen and Nanyang. The regions inhibited by geographical conditions are mainly Zhongwei,Wuzhong,Guyuan and Xinyang, while the degree of external integration of the market has less impact on most of Shaanxi and northern Henan. In addition, the interaction of the drivers shows both a bilinear and non-linear enhancement. The innovations of this study are as follows.(1)The SDM model was used to analyse the drivers of high-quality development in the Basin, revealing the global spatial heterogeneity of the drivers;(2)the GTWR model was used to analyse the differences in the local impacts of the drivers of high-quality development in the Basin, revealing the local spatial heterogeneity of each driver;(3)the geographic detector model was used to analyse the impact of each driver on the degree of contribution and interaction effects of the drivers on the high-quality development of the Basin, finding that the drivers showed bilinear enhancement and non-linear enhancement after interaction. |
