Located in the Huaibei Plain,Jinzhai Site has complex and diversity cultural features. The unearthed remains are dominated by the Dawenkou Culture, and there are also a few elements of Dahecun,Liangzhu and Qujialing culture. This essay intends to start from the perspective of pottery "operational chain",focusing on the unearthed pottery in ditches and burials, and discussing the relationship between the production, consumption, circulation, and society through the analysis of pottery production and source of raw material. In terms of pottery technology, this essay mainly observes the characteristics of raw materials, forming and surface treatment, decoration, and firing, etc.,to investigate the degree of specialization of pottery production, and compare the use and consumption of pottery in different social units. In terms of origin analysis, combining with the thin-petrography and chemical analysis, this essay attempts to observe the sources of different pottery clays at the Jinzhai site, and combine typology and cemetery analysis to investigate the cultural exchanges and interactions between the Jinzhai site and surrounding settlements.Introduction:A brief review of the history of pottery research, and an introduction to the research ideas and methods.Chapter 1:Overview of Jinzhai Sites and different styles of pottery. It mainly introduces the natural geographical environment of the Jinzhai site, the archaeological excavations over the years and the introduction of relevant culture.Chapter 2:Observation of Pottery Making Technology.Overall, the residence area is mostly composed of Sandy ware, and the tomb area is mostly clay potteries. The difference between them is reflected in the functional differentiation of social units. However, the use of utensi ls is considered in the selection of clay for the two materials. The Sandy ware are mostly used for cooking pots such as ding tripots and gui pitcher, while the food and water utensils such as the back pots, cups with ring feet, pottery stem cups are mostly clay potteries. The types of tempers have obvious phase characteristics. In the early and mid-terms,they were mainly mixed with ceramic slag which were mostly found in tombs. In the late period, they were mainly mixed with mussel powder and white quartz, which were widely seen in residential areas. The inclination of the pottery selection tradition at different stages reflects the differentiation of the pottery tradition and the crowd behind it.In terms of forming stage, the coil method is popular, combined with beating, repairing and slow wheel trimming techniques, indicating that the pottery wheel has already been used.In decoration, there are a few basket patterns, additional pile patterns, nests, and holes formed during the finishing process.Compared with the daily use pottery in the residential area, most of the pottery unearthed in the tombs show signs of wear and repair. Most of the funeral objects should be daily utensils.A small number of large-scale tombs are exquisitely decorated with red painted potteries.Thin and delicate pottery with the characteristics of ceremony. In addition, some paintings with decorative patterns are mostly from Liangzhu and Qujialing cultural elements. In the firing stage, there are multiple firing methods such as reducing atmosphere, oxidizing atmosphere, and carburizing technology.Chapter 3:The chemical analysis of pottery.A total of 79 pottery slices in the east graveyard of the Jinzhai site and 5 natural soil samples around the site were selected for scientific and technological analysis.82 samples were subjected to XRF analysis,19 samples were subjected to thin-petrographic observation, and the data was subjected to multivariate statistical analysis. The statistical results show that the pottery clay materials in the tombs of the Jinzhai site can be roughly divided into two types, indicating that the pottery in the tombs has different production units and clay sources. In terms of stage, the early raw materials mostly used ordinary fusible clay, which was produced locally. The amount of late high-alumina refractory clay increased, and its chemical element dispersion characteristics may reflect the possibility of being produced in other areas.Meanwhile, there is no difference in the content of main elements between ordinary clay gray pottery cups and other mud pottery. The Qujialing style colored pottery pot-shaped beans are obviously different from other clay pottery, and there is a possibility of foreign source.Chapter 4:Analysis of the lithofacies structure of pottery.Observe the lithofacies of the unearthed sandy pottery in the residential area and the tomb area respectively. The main inclusion types of pottery in the residential area can be divided into:mussels;ceramic slag;plant rhizomes;granite;feldspar sandstone;sandstone inclusions pottery. The burial area is dominated by muddy pottery, with a small amount of pottery with shard slag, mussels, and sand.Among them, the early stage is mostly with shard slag, and the late stage is mostly with mussels. The selection of raw materials for different types of utensils may consider the different requirements such as plasticity, thermal shock resistance, water absorption. The selection of non-plastic inclusions of pottery has a tendency at different stages, reflecting its production tradition and technical style. The changes in this area would be closely related to the frequent movement and migration of people in Jinzhai settlements. Conclusion:Briefly review the main points of this essay and point out the problems.
