Scientific Analysis On The Pottery Of Dawenkou Culture In Jiaojia Site

Jiaojia site is an important central settlement site in the Mid-Late Dawenkou culture in northern Shandong Province.In 2016-2017,we have carried out the archaeological excavations and we have obtained a rich number of settlements and burial materials.This site showed that the residence of house and the tomb area were arranged in an orderly manner.A large amount of pottery was found in more than 200 tombs.The context of these pottery was relatively simple,and there are various shapes of pottery.So it was the important indicator to explore the development of handicraft industry level,the economic level and the social organization level.This paper is based on the research results of previous scholars.Through the scientific and technological analysis of the pottery,we discussed the chemical composition and lithofacies of the pottery at Jiaojia site in detail that provides a new perspective for understanding the raw materials and production technology of pottery.The main research findings are follows.First of all,diachronic studies show that the raw materials that near the site were used for common pottery production at Jiaojia site in the MidLate Dawenkou culture.However,in the middle period,the selection of raw materials and technologies are more diverse,which reflects the low level of pottery production technology in that time.In addition,the raw material of the late white pottery was different from that of the common pottery,which may have been made from the porcelain stone in the south of China.In terms of the processing of pottery raw materials,compared with the middle period,the raw materials of the pottery in the late period of Dawenkou culture were selectively selected and processed,and the composition of pottery raw materials was further centralized.In terms of the firing environment,the firing technology of the late Dawenkou culture was obviously more advanced than that of the middle period.The pottery kiln provided a more specialized venue for later pottery production that reflected the change of firing quality and firing efficiency of pottery.In the degree of standardization and specialization of pottery production,evidence of various pottery production in the Mid-Late Dawenkou culture at the Jiaojia site shows that the production of pottery at this time has a trend of standardization and specialization while the degree is relatively low which belonging to the big family workshop production to large-scale specialized production in the middle stage.In addition,for different types of pottery at Jiaojia site,the selection of raw materials and processing methods are different,which is particularly obvious in the comparison of the composition of water container and cooker.For the pottery from different tombs,there is no obvious difference in the elemental composition and contents,but the pottery sources from large tombs are more fixed,while the pottery materials from medium and small tombs are more extensive.
