A geological park is a type of natural protected area that primarily consists of a certain scale of geological heritage landscape combined with surrounding natural and cultural landscapes. In recent years, with the vigorous development of geological parks, there have been many problems in terms of operational models, management institutions, and others, leading to a serious impact on the protection of geological heritage and the sustainable development of parks.Based on the concept of sustainable development, this paper compares and analyzes domestic and international geological park planning modes and literature, and comprehensively applies landscape ecology theory, landscape aesthetics theory, recreation opportunity spectrum theory, industry integration theory, and sociology theory. This study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including field research,Arc GIS-assisted analysis, and SWOT analysis to construct a sustainable development planning mode for geological parks. The study takes the Sangongshan National Geological Park in Shaanxi Province as the research object and, based on previous field research and landscape resource analysis, summarizes practical sustainable development planning strategies for geological parks. The following conclusions are drawn:1.Based on a summary of domestic and international research on the sustainable development of geological parks and related cases, the planning for the sustainable development of geological parks should adhere to the principles of "strict protection, reasonable development, highlighting features, unified management, and sustainable use".Under these principles,a scientific and reasonable evaluation system should be used to rate the park’s landscape resources. Two planning strategies should be adopted based on the evaluation model, namely low-intervention landscape and activation of geological heritage.Based on comprehensive and rigorous data support, the overall planning and special planning for geological parks should be completed, and ultimately,a theoretical framework for the sustainable development of geological parks should be constructed.2.Through research and analysis, the geological heritage landscape of the Sangongshan National Geological Park mainly consists of volcanic landforms and collapse landforms. The geological heritage landscape and cultural landscapes are mainly concentrated in the central part of the park, and the original landscape resources are diverse and of high quality. The park has advantages in national policy support and local economic support, but it also faces issues such as inadequate integration of tourism resources, confusion in management, and inconsistent internal regional development.Considering the fierce competition among similar parks, the fast-paced renewal of the tourism market, and the diverse demands of tourists,in order to achieve the sustainable development of Sangongshan Geological Park,it is necessary to re-integrate and optimize various landscape tourism resources.Combining with forest tourism, health tourism, and other forms of tourism around the park,a characteristic comprehensive tourism loop with brand effect should be created to achieve a virtuous economic cycle of "using resources to support the area" and promote the sustainable development of the park.3.Taking the Sangongshan National Geological Park as a practical object, the feasibility of the sustainable development model for geological parks is verified.Considering the relevant planning and current status of the park, the park is divided into five functional areas: geological heritage, natural ecology, cultural landscapes, popular science education, and management services. There are also five major scenic spots(Jinding,Volcanic Rock,Wolong Bay,Lianhua Village, and Mengshiling)and two types of third-level protection zones, forming a "one core, two centers, three belts, four rings, and five zones" planning structure. The special planning part further reflects the application of sustainable development concepts through specific planning measures, providing theoretical reference and practical experience for similar geological parks in terms of "principles-evaluation-strategies" planning.
