| The world is currently in the midst of a new round of technological change and economic transformation. The widespread use of digital technology has had a great impact on social operations and production activities, and the factors and mechanisms influencing total factor productivity have also changed. With the advancement of technology, the digital economy is becoming a new type of economic form, which relies on various factors such as data resources, digital technology and advanced information networks to continuously promote the transformation of quality, efficiency and dynamics, thereby achieving high-quality sustainable development. In order to explore the empowerment mechanism of the digital economy on total factor productivity, the research ideas of this paper are as follows:(1)Theoretical analysis. From the perspective of digital economy and high quality economic development, based on the theory of economic growth, the theory of high quality economic development and the theory of digital economy for high quality economic development, the mechanism of impact of digital economy on total factor productivity and the ways of impact are analyzed;(2)Measurement analysis.Based on the relevant data of 30 provinces in China(excluding Tibet and Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan)from 2011 to 2021,the value added accounting method and the DEA-Malmquist index method were used to measure the scale of core industries and total factor productivity of the digital economy respectively, and briefly analyse the development trend and regional differences between them;(3)Empirical analysis. The impact of the digital economy on total factor productivity is verified using the fixed-effects model, followed by a specific analysis of how the digital economy affects total factor productivity using the multiple mediating effects model, and finally the heterogeneity of the digital economy on total factor productivity in different regions and at different levels of development is investigated using group regression and threshold regression models.Through the above empirical research, this paper obtains the following conclusions:(1)China’s digital economy is developing at a relatively fast pace, with large differences in the development of the digital economy between regions and more unbalanced regional development, and the average scale of the core industries of the digital economy in the eastern and southern coastal integrated economic zones is much higher than that in other regions;(2)during the sample years,China’s total factor productivity is basically in a state of declining efficiency, and changes in technological progress in the last two years is the most important reason for the decrease in total factor productivity;(3)The digital economy promotes the increase in total factor productivity through the transmission of two intermediary mechanisms, namely technical progress and technical efficiency,in which technical efficiency is the most critical influencing factor, according to the regression results of the chain intermediary model, the digital economy suppresses the increase in technical efficiency through its positive influence on technical progress, thus suppressing the increase in total factor(4)By region, the digital economy has a significant positive impact on total factor productivity in the eastern region, the northeastern region and the western region, showing that the digital economy has a greater impact on total factor productivity in the eastern region and the northeastern region than in the western region.(5)By development level,on the one hand,as total factor productivity increases, the degree of promotion of the digital economy on total factor productivity increases accordingly, and on the other hand,as the development level of the digital economy increases, the digital economy will further strengthen its role in promoting total factor productivity. |
