Climate change is a significant problem on a global scale. It poses an urgent threat, concern, and challenge to all nations as a global issue. It impacts all sectors of society and ultimately undermines the future growth of the global community, including Laos. Therefore, the Lao PDR needs to accomplish quicker structural reform and export diversification for higher and more equitable development.Laos has used its considerable natural resource endowment to achieve rapid economic development and eliminate p overty, but growth must be fairer and more sustainable as the country progresses.Within requires undertaking action to address environmental degradation and climate change.UNDP collaborates with the Government of Lao PDR to solve global challenges throug h cooperating with development partners, civil society, and the private sector.UNDP supported Laos in improving the Agriculture Sector’s Resilience in Lao PDR to Climate Change Impacts;it’s designed to promote resilience in Lao PDR’s agricultural sector, enhance climate change knowledge, strengthen agriculture and rural sector policies, and develop institutional skills to carry out systematic adaptation planning and the IRAS was a strategically important project. It was started and executed during a time when the consequences of climate change were becoming increasingly visible across the world, including in Lao PDR.As a result,IRAS took numerous measures to formalize resilience-building initiatives. And most of the three project outcomes were achieved to the project’s goal as activities, for those processes are critical elements in identifying and implementing solutions for resilience linked to climate change. The ADB’s CPS covers 2017-2021;the projects will improve watershed conservation by supporting better land-use management and good agricultural practices, strengthening climate resilience, and will help the government prepare a disaster risk management and climate change law.And the draft of the climate change Law was reviewed by National Assembly in2018.Once again, the ADB’s CPS;There is a lack of land tenure stability, which is hampering the investment in natural capital and eroding the safeguards for indigenous people. In addition,a large-scale foreign direct investment-driven development, notably monitoring and implementing land-use agreements,is beyond the capabilities of many government authorities. These negatively impact the environment and societal results.
