Research On The Current Situation And Problems Of Sino-Russian Arctic Cooperatio

Since the beginning of the 21 st century,the territory of geopolitical tensions in the Arctic is constantly intensifying.In the past few decades,due to the rapid melting of glaciers around the world,the development of the Arctic region has increasingly leading attention from all over the world,especially attracting environmentalists,oil and natural gas experts,and politicians focus on.The geopolitical changes in the world have led to the Arctic becoming another platform for fierce competition between countries.China’s continued rise logically has led China to also become involved in the “Arctic race”.As a non-arctic country,China set a goal to gain significant benefits from developing the earth’s potential natural resources and Arctic transportation routes.Compared to China,Russia in the Arctic country has the world’s largest Arctic mainland rack,directly controls the shortest maritime transportation artery-the Northern Sea Route from Asia to Europe,the shortest maritime transport artery from Asia to Europe.Currently,Sino-Russian Arctic cooperation mainly includes economic and trade cooperation,energy development cooperation,polar science and technology cooperation,information sharing cooperation,and five aspects of cooperation at sea burst emergencies.In June 2019,China and Russia signed the "Joint Statement on the Development of a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the New Era",expanding arctic cooperation between China and Russia to the field of sustainable development and taking the development and utilization of arctic routes,the construction of infrastructure in the Arctic,the development of resources in the Arctic,Arctic tourism,environmental protection and polar scientific research as the focus of cooperation between the two countries,marking the entry of Sino-Russian Arctic cooperation into a new period and new areas.In addition,the proposal of the Sino-Russian “Ice Silk Road” Cooperation Initiative also marks a new step for the cooperation between China and Russia.The thesis analyses the status of the Arctic region and its significance for the development of international relations;elaborates the prerequisites for China to strengthen its activities in the Arctic;discusses China and Russia’s Arctic strategies from different perspectives;conducts a comparative analysis of the interests of the two countries in the region;discovers the similarities and differences between China and Russia’s Arctic interests;describes the current situation of Sino-Russian Arctic cooperation,the main projects and achievements;discusses the contradictions in Arctic cooperation between the two countries;evaluates the prospects for further cooperation and proposes solutions to potential contradictions.
