Research On The Digital Version Form Of Academic Periodicals

The fundamental reason for the emergence of periodicals is people's demand for rapid transmission and exchange of social information.Since the publication of the first periodical in the world,periodicals have had very unique version characteristics.As a form of books,the essence of the edition of periodicals is the same as that of books,but compared with books,the greatest feature is its continuity.This makes it possible for a periodical to reprint or republish one issue,integrate several volumes of a certain volume or each issue of a certain year and republish it,and rearrange and republish some periodical articles with high academic value that have been finally published.These are the edition features that books do not have.With the rapid development of digital technology,the ways and means for people to obtain and disseminate academic information have changed.Under the strong impact of digital technology,periodicals are facing the problems of digitalization and digital publishing.In this process,traditional printed academic periodicals are digitally deconstructed and reorganized to generate a brand-new digital version.However,at present,no matter in the field of periodical science,edition science or editing and publishing,most of the researches are focused on the book edition represented by ancient books,and the researches on the periodical edition are only limited to the traditional paper edition,rarely involving the digital edition of periodicals.And in the digital era,due to the change of periodical editing and publishing methods,the academic research on the impact or change of periodical edition is relatively weak,and further exploration is needed.Considering that the academic periodicals as an important part of the periodical have completed the digital transformation first,in order to meet the needs of the rapid publication,exchange and dissemination of academic achievements,the digital version features are remarkable.Therefore,this paper discusses the topic of digital edition of academic periodicals.First of all,on the basis of clarifying the research background,this paper reviews the current research situation at home and abroad in the fields of edition science,periodical science and editing and publishing,and finds out the weakness of academic research on digital editions of academic periodicals,thus highlighting the importance and necessity of this research.At the same time,the definitions,characteristics,functions and relationships of related concepts such as academic periodicals and non-academic periodicals,periodical digitization and digital publishing are analyzed and distinguished,and the basic theory of periodical edition is explained.It is considered that periodical edition,as a part of edition,needs to be constantly updated and developed to become a more rigorous and systematic discipline.Secondly,this study selects the academic periodical Library and Information Services as the data collection object,selects three digital platforms,and divides them into three levels according to the deconstruction and reconstruction process of the periodical content.It is found that the differences between the forms of digital versions are mainly reflected in the periodical version related items such as document title,size and layout,and the secondary content related items such as publication information,catalogue information and additional explanations,rather than the binding,paper,layout and folio of traditional versions,which leads to the analysis of the forms of digital versions.The differences between different platforms and different time periods are analyzed from three levels and two directions,and the characteristics of digital versions on each level are summarized respectively.Finally,through data collection and analysis,it is clear that the characteristics of the digital version of academic periodicals are mainly manifested in hyperlinks and openness,platform dependence,format diversity and dynamics;It also explains the concept connotation of the digital version of academic periodicals,that is,the digital periodicals with differences in document form and document content formed after digital processing,editing and publishing of the same academic periodical.This difference mainly comes from the editing mode of the digital platform of periodicals,including the differences in electronic document format,layout design and article content at the whole periodical,single issue and chapter level.It is expounded that the evaluation of digital edition of academic periodicals can be carried out from the aspects of digitalization level,periodical resources,carrier characteristics and operation interface.This paper puts forward the curing mode,curing format and curing technology of digital edition of academic journals.And this paper holds that PDF is more suitable as the curing format of digital edition,and blockchain technology is a new technical reference for the research of digital edition curing of academic periodicals.To sum up,this paper clarifies the related concepts of academic journals and non-academic journals,digitalization of periodicals and digital publishing,and clarifies the basic theory of periodical edition,which enriches the theoretical research of periodical science,edition science and editing and publishing,and promotes the further development of periodical edition science.Through data collection and result analysis,this paper puts forward the definition,evaluation and curing strategy of academic journal digital edition,which can further guide libraries and other institutions to strengthen the management of journal editions in the digital age in practice.
