With the advent of the era of big data,a large amount of unstructured information, with numerous types, timeliness, and abstractedness,is constantly emerging. The traditional static visualization and single information coding method are difficult to meet the practical needs,so the dynamic information coding method and interactive dynamic visualization emerge and are gradually widely used.Information visualization presents massive abstract information in visual form and amplifies human cognition. However, information presentation and interaction forms that violate the law of human cognition will backfire.Navigation is an important interaction in the visual interface, which involves viewpoint change and view switch. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the cognitive cost in navigation interaction. This paper based on the theory of cognitive psychology and information visualization technology, guided by the demands of dynamic characterization of visual interface design, using research methods of cognitive psychology and design of visual interface navigation interaction is analyzed, then different mapping mode of the cognitive mechanism involved in the navigation, visual interface design based on cognitive strategies can eventually form. The main contents of this paper are as follows:The visualization and cognitive theories such as visual reference model, visual perception, attention capture, cognitive load, visual search are studied. The cognitive tasks of the visual interface are sorted out, which lays a theoretical foundation for the study of visual navigation interaction. The framework of visual navigation design is analyzed based on the theory of visual cognition. The visual structure and visual coding are summarized, and the main visual navigation forms are analyzed.Based on the theory of visual cognition, four visual navigation design strategies are proposed:design reasonable feedback, consistent representation, construct a mental cognitive map,and design appropriate navigation width and depth.Through behavioral experiments, the cognitive modes of users for scaling and rotation transformations related to information visualization navigation are studied.By analyzing the experimental results, the mapping model between scaling and rotation transformations and cognitive performance in the information visualization interface is established. The enlightenment of the interactive representation of scaling and rotation of the visual interface is obtained:when the rotation angle is less than 15°,the cognitive cost is lower. For the scaling transformation, there is no cognitive cost range between the scaling ratio of 1-2:1,and the scaling ratio is greater than 2:1,and the cognitive efficiency decreases as the scaling ratio increases.Based on the results of the behavioral experiment, the visual interface of geographic information and node-link graph with different presentation schemes were designed, and the eye movement tracking experiment was conducted. The optimal design scheme was obtained through the analysis of fixation time and saccade path.It verifies the visual interface perception and cognitive rules obtained from the behavior experiment and proves that the research results have practical value and extensibility.
