The most information people derive from the software system depends on visual communication of user interface elements. However, the understanding and responses to information vary from person to person, so that it makes sense to research on human cognitive behaviour. The research will help for evaluation and improvement of complex UI system which make the interface in line with people’s operating habits, ensure the validity of user’s sensory information and improve the task efficiency.The visual information is classified on the basis of elements, visual elements is deconstructed according to different attributes of information. Through the analysis of visual information such as space, texts, graphics and dot, line, face, it tells common coding methods of element attributes and the process of visual information communication.Then, the research on cognitive process of visual information goes based on the theory of cognitive psychology and information processing theory, it is divided into four stages, information input, the cognitive processing, cognitive decision-making and cognitive behavioral responses. Combined with the feature of user’s visual cognition, the factors about cognition of user’s visual information are summarized based on the analysis of cognitive biases, cognitive load, emotional cognition and imagination cognition.Finally, the research on color information is conducted based on cognitive process of visual information, and the data of behavior and brain electrical physiological indexes is acquired during the ERP behavior experiment about color attribute stimulation. This paper states that the changes of color attributes have effect on P300 component in the brain waves, and explores the cognitive characteristics and sense features of people aimed at color attributes. For instance, the subjects can easily perceive the changes of hue, the changes of color saturation and brightness lead to the change of latency of P300, whereas they have no significant effect on the peak, which can provide theoretical basis for color design.
