Information overload has become a major challenge in today's human-computer interaction field.Visualization uses the characteristics of human visual cognition systems to map abstract data into visible graphic images,thus helping people extract information quickly and efficiently from large amounts of data.Visualization magnifies human cognition,but visualization that does not conform to the rules of visual cognition can be counterproductive,which puts extremely high demands on the design of visualization.Therefore,the study of visual presentation,visual cognition tasks and their cognitive efficiency from the perspective of visual cognition mode is of great significance for visualization design.Scatter plot is a classic visualization structure and a good carrier for testing visual unit coding problems.Scatter plots have unique advantages in design-related cognitive research.Starting from the visual cognitive behavioral mode,this paper firstly combs the basic visual rendering framework of visualization,the classification of visual cognitive tasks,the cognitive process of visualization and the visual perception law in visual cognitive tasks,and proposes a task-driven visualization and cognitive model.Secondly,this paper analyzes the presentation characteristics of the classical visual structure of scatter plots and the characteristics of cognitive tasks,and explores the difficulty of scatter plot category separation tasks through behavioral experiments.The experimental results show that the vertical distance ? of the center point of all objects of the two target classes in the scatter plot can reflect the cognitive difficulty of the task.The smaller the ?,the greater the cognitive difficulty.For the scatter plot design in the experiment,the difficulty can be divided into four levels by different ? value ranges: extremely high cognitive difficulty,high cognitive difficulty,medium cognitive difficulty and low cognitive difficulty.Thirdly,this paper explores the influencing factors in the process of visual cognition,including visual design factors,objective environmental factors and user subjective factors;and the evaluation factors of visual cognitive efficiency,including cognitive costs and cognitive benefits.By introducing a comprehensive visual cognitive efficiency evaluation method,a visual cognitive efficiency model based on cognitive load and cognitive fitting theory is established.Finally,this paper uses subjective scales and performance measurement to conduct experimental research,and obtains the comprehensive cognitive efficiency of scatter plot category separation tasks under different difficulty and complexity conditions.The experimental results show that the cognitive efficiency between different task difficulties is significantly different.The greater the task difficulty,the worse the performance in the three dimensions of cognitive efficiency,and the lower the comprehensive cognitive efficiency.The comprehensive cognitive efficiency between different design complexes is significantly different.The greater the complexity of visual design,the lower the comprehensive cognitive efficiency,and it is reflected in the visual coding mode of the visualization unit.In addition,task difficulty factors and complexity factors have certain interaction effects,which have a comprehensive impact on visual cognition efficiency.The experimental results have a certain role in understanding how visual design factors affect visual cognition behavior,and have certain guiding significance for visual interface design and task setting.
