With the improvements and the wide application of virtual reality technology, the true 3D has gotten more and more attention, due to its natural, reality and efficiency, which exactly meet the developing direction of the next generation of user interface. At present, the research works seldom focus on spatial information visualization, while users' cognition depends on the visual information presentation and visual navigation largely. Consequently, it's significant and realistic to research 3D space information and visual navigation. In this thesis, the author aims at research on spatial information visualization (SIV), spatial cognition and interaction. This thesis first analyses the features and the types of spatial information. Combining with the presentation features of 3D space, it proposes two visual methods for spatial information. One is basic elements, and the other is metaphor. To guide the design of spatial information, some cognitive conclusions of visual pathway are concluded by experiment. After developed a cognitive model, it discuss the spatial needs, tasks, navigation and manipulation. The 2D+3D+Virtual-partners are proposed, aiming to organize the spatial information properly and improve 3D interaction at the application level. During spatial system design, some guidelines are shown in this thesis. The main creative contribution of this paper can be summarized as follow:1 The experiments in the thesis show that the shape information is dealing priory during the information process of the visual channel. And it's more efficient when users deal with the single property task than dealing with multi-properties synchronously.2 Two information visualization methods are systemically discussed including five basic elements and four metaphors. Each method is proposed by analyzing its feature and the information which it is fit for.3 A spatial cognitive model is put forward in this thesis. It first modeled a need-task model, according to the user spatial needs, task and behavior. It also summarized the types of the spatial navigate knowledge, and proposes the design guidelines for spatial navigation, by analyzing spatial perception. The spatial manipulation is analyzed subsequently. It proposes two types of manipulation including direct and indirect manipulation, which is useful for analyzing space task.4 Based on the integration of 2D,3D and Virtual-partners, some guidelines for spatial information design is discussed.5 Based on the SIV and spatial interaction, the thesis modeled a true 3D movie platform.
