The word "ecology" originated in ancient Greece and refers to the state of living and developing in a certain natural environment.In the early 1990s,Moor,an American economist with a background in historical and ecological theory research,published an article "Predator and Prey:A New Ecology of Competition" in the Harvard Business Review,formally proposing the concept of business ecology.In nature,trees grow in the forest can grow taller,because the roots of the trees in the forest are connected to each other,so the forest ecology has a strong ability to resist risks and share resources.In business,the advantages of ecology also reduce the uncertain risks of a single enterprise facing the market in isolation,and enhance the ability of ecological participants to resist risks.In addition,the business ecology has the typical "platform"characteristics,which has natural advantages compared with the "pipeline"characteristics of traditional business:the central enterprises in the business ecology rely on their own advantages in capital,resources,information,etc.,to connect the upstream and downstream of the industry.All participants,connecting developers and consumers,combine space,time,capital,information and other elements to establish a two-sided market.In the two-sided market in the business ecosystem,the advantages of network externality utility and scale utility can help ecological enterprises to occupy a wider market share and build a larger business territory.Therefore,the business ecology is not only the sum of several traditional business models,but also the optimization and improvement of the sum.After the concept of business ecology was put forward,a large number of foreign companies used related theories to carry out business practice exploration,and a large number of companies also achieved rapid development in this process,which objectively confirmed the scientific nature of business ecology theory.In recent years,China's economic development has shifted from a high-speed growth stage to a highquality development stage.In the process of such rhythm switching,the development of many domestic enterprises has encountered bottlenecks.Faced with such a situation,some enterprises have begun to copy the way foreign enterprises have built their business ecosystems.However,in the initial exploration,many domestic enterprises believe that the business ecology should include everything.Large-scale blind expansion not only fails to help enterprises achieve strategic transformation,but also makes enterprises carry heavy debts and go bankrupt.As a result,doubts about the usefulness of business ecology began to spread,and many disheartened domestic companies believed that business ecology did not have the possibility of success in China.The research of this article is also based on the above-mentioned questioning of the business ecological model.On the basis of reviewing the development process of traditional business model theory and business ecology theory,two companies from both domestic and foreign countries,Xiaomi and Apple,have been selected for comparative study.The research starts from the process of these two companies building a business ecology,explores the effect of the business ecology,and studies whether the business ecology can help enterprises achieve better and faster development.On this basis,analyze the differences between domestic and foreign enterprises,and then put forward suggestions for domestic enterprises to build a business ecology.The study found that even though there are objective differences in market position,resource endowment,technical capital and other aspects of domestic and foreign enterprises,the theories such as network externalities and demand for economies of scale in business ecology are still valid.In addition,the theories such as economies of scale and comparative advantage have better application effects in the business ecological model than in the traditional business model.In other words,business ecology can help domestic enterprises achieve strategic transformation and help domestic enterprises gain unique competitive advantages in business competition in the new era.At the same time,this paper objectively points out that the central enterprises of domestic and foreign business ecology do have differences in ecological status and ecological control,and further analyzes at the present stage and points out that the sources of the above differences include technical barriers,positive externality differences,and enterprise product strategies,etc.On this basis,according to the development status of domestic enterprises,three suggestions are put forward.including exerting comparative advantages and exploring ecologically heterogeneous resources;breaking through critical capacity as soon as possible to activate the positive feedback effect;increasing R?D investment and building core technological advantages.It tries to provide help for domestic enterprises to achieve strategic transformation by building a business ecosystem.This paper is different from most of the previous studies by scholars.First,it adopts a double-case comparative study.Compared with a single-case study,the double-case comparative study reduces the chance of the case,and the research conclusion is more credible and persuasive.Not limited to theoretical discussions,the analysis is carried out on the basis of the theory combined with the actual situation to provide practical and operational recommendations for domestic enterprises with different resource endowments.
