The Practice And Enlightenment Of Citizen Science Service In America Libraries

In recent years,with the development of the international open science movement,the open science has risen from "open access" and "open peer review" to "citizen science".The demand for libraries has changed from "promoting public understanding of science and strengthening public scientific literacy" to "opening the scientific research process",which urgently requires libraries to provide citizen science services to support the development of citizen science.In terms of citizen science service,libraries have unique advantages and powerful conditions,so they should take the initiative to seize the opportunity,meet the challenge,join in the tide of "citizen science",actively explore the development of citizen science service,innovate the service mode of libraries,and seek new development opportunities for libraries.As a pioneer of citizen science service,American libraries have rich experience in citizen science service,and its rapid development is due to the multi-party support of the Institute of Museum and Library Services(IMLS),Sci Starter and other organizations,as well as the full play of their own experience and advantages.The library provides citizen science services by recommending citizen science projects,providing citizen science information resources and experimental tools,holding Citizen Science Day,and conducting citizen science practices.American libraries have become one of the important driving forces for the development of citizen science service in the United States.Their successful experience lies in the emphasis on the richness of service content and the display of their own advantages,the emphasis on humanistic care and the encouragement of volunteers,and the emphasis on promoting citizen science.At the same time,because the citizen science service of libraries in the United States is still in the initial stage,it is inevitable that there will be problems and deficiencies,mainly including the lack of policy and financial support,as well as the lack of dedicated citizen science service librarians.At present,China has begun to pay attention to the role of libraries in citizen science services.However,no libraries have carried out citizen science service practice,and Chinese libraries have little attention and participation in citizen science service,so there is still a lot of room for development.Based on the advanced experience of library citizen science service in the United States and the development status of library in China,Chinese libraries should develop citizen science services by establishing a column of "citizen science",making use of maker space to promote the development of citizen science,creating special "Citizen Science Day" activities,cultivating citizen scientific literacy,and building a team of citizen science librarians,so as to promote the development of citizen science in China.
