The rapid development of the Internet causes great changes in people's way of reading.Nowadays,digital reading has become a widely recognized and adopted way of reading among Chinese people due to its easy search,convenient viewing,rich content and diversified information among other characteristics fitting in with modern lifestyles.While the rapidly rising digital reading way exerts the deepest and most conspicuous influence on adolescents,a loyal audience group of Internet products.In the future,there will be an inevitable trend for adolescents to access to digital reading ahead of time with greater contact rate.But various statistical researches and phenomena on digital reading point to the two following realistic issues: 1)the decline in the quantity and quality of extracurricular reading on the part of adolescents,a general lack of driving power to read and difficulty to maintain long-term reading behaviors;2)Although there are a lot of digital reading platforms,there is a lack of mainstream digital reading platforms targeted at adolescents.Therefore,studying and designing a digital reading APP applicable to the adolescents and capable of stimulating and maintaining their reading motivation are the main objective of this project.The paper sorts out and analyzes literature on the theories of digital reading and motivation,combines ARCS motivation models,and explores the design principles stimulating and maintaining the digital reading motivation of adolescents on the basis of surveying and analyzing the status-quo and needs of adolescents in terms of digital reading.The research finds that: 1)interest stimulation principle;2)fashionable design element principle;3)interactive and intelligent application principle and 4)socializing and emotional identification principle need to be complied with regarding the group of adolescents.Designing reading APP on the basis of these four principles can effectively boost the interests of adolescents in reading and the effect of their reading.In the end,these principles are applied to design practices,so as to inspire digital reading researches and platform design targeted at adolescents.
