Underwater wireless information transmission plays an important role in tactical surveillance, oil control,Marine exploration, pollution monitoring, climate change monitoring and Marine scientific research, which has attracted great attention from military, industrial and scientific circles. In order to facilitate these activities, more and more exploration robots or unmanned equipment are deployed underwater, which requires high bandwidth and large capacity of underwater information transmission. At present, underwater acoustic communication is the main method of information transmission in underwater wireless network. However, there are still some shortcomings in underwater acoustic communication, such as small transmission rate, narrow bandwidth available and slow propagation speed, which lead to large end-to-end delay, high energy consumption and short life cycle. Therefore,in order to avoid the shortcomings of underwater acoustic communication and solve the attenuation of absorption and scattering effects in the process of light propagation in complex underwater environment,blue-green light low loss window has been regarded as a new focus in underwater wireless communication in recent years.Meanwhile, routing optimization technology of Underwater Wireless Optical Sensor Network(UWOSN)is also widely studied.Underwater Wireless Optical Communication(UWOC)provides a higher data rate than the traditional Underwater acoustic Communication system, significantly reduces the power consumption and simpler computational complexity in the short-distance Wireless links, thus leading to the popularity of UWOC.UWOC has many potential applications from deep sea to coastal waters. In this paper, the unique transmission characteristics, system architecture and routing algorithms of Underwater Wireless Optical Network(UWON)are firstly discussed.A routing algorithm based on Energy Balancing Distributed Clustering(EBDC)is proposed. The proposed algorithm utilizes cluster topology control based on multi-hop communication of routing data, which can improve the lifetime time and scalability of UWON.It includes three stages:cluster header selection, cluster establishment and data routing.Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in end-to-end delay and energy consumption optimization. Finally,an Opportunistic Selection Distributed Sector(OSDS)routing algorithm was proposed.OSDS is different from the traditional multi-hop Routing algorithms that select a unique repeater on each hop,Opportunistic Routing(OR)targets a group of candidate relayed by exploiting the broadcasting characteristics of UWOC channels. In this case,OR improves the packet delivery rate because the likelihood that at least one packet will be successfully received is much higher than traditional unicast routing. The simulation results show that the sector algorithm has better packet delivery rate,end-to-end delay and energy consumption performance in UWON.
