Analysis Of The Research Trend Of Subject Topics Based On Topic Popularity

Disciplinary research topic refers to the main idea and basic argument of academic literature of the discipline.The research trend of disciplinary topic refers to the trend of the attention degree of themes in its disciplines over time.With the development of information technology revolution,all disciplines are greatly impacted at the basic theory,research category and research method level;The parallel development,interdisciplinary integration,and mutual penetration of multidisciplinary have made the boundaries of disciplines more blurred,forming many branches,margin,and emerging research themes.Based on traditional research topics,researchers continue to explore new research theme.To clarify the research trend of the subject will not only help to reveal the law of disciplinary development and promote the construction and development of the discipline,but also help researchers to find the breakthrough point of research and help scientific research management departments to formulate scientific research plans and allocate funds reasonably.In this paper,we use Biterm Topic Model(BTM)modeling to discover the research topic in the discipline field,and on this basis,construct a topic popularity index to measure the research trend of disciplinary topics.The specific work is as follows:(1)Through literature research,this paper summarizes the existing methods of topic discovery and the measurement index of topic research trend.Taking topic model and word frequency analysis as the breakthrough point,through in-depth research on the construction idea,principle,generation mechanism and algorithm of topic model,BTM is selected as the discovery method of disciplinary topic.Referring to the word frequency analysis method,the BTM is used to obtain the "topic-term" probability distribution,the term probability is used to weight the word frequency of the term as the weight.On this basis,this paper constructs the topic popularity index.(2)Use BTM to model the core journal literature and degree literature of library science and information science from 2010 to 2019.The research finally obtain 18 research topics in library science,including theoretical research on Library Science,Library Science education,public libraries,university libraries,Chinese Library Classification,characteristic databases,protection of ancient books,reading promotion,library collection construction,digital libraries,grassroots libraries,library transformation,library alliances,interlibrary loan,library management,minor readers,comparison research of Chinese and foreign library science.In addition,there are 12 research topics are obtained in information science,including bibliometrics and visualization,research status and development exploration of Information Science,academic evaluation,information system,information analysis and prediction system,information retrieval,webometrics and public opinion analysis,social network analysis,journal-based Information Science research,government information system,competitive intelligence,data mining.(3)Count the frequency of words in different time windows,use the topic popularity formula to calculate the popularity value of each topic in different years.According to the trend of the popularity value of different topics,this paper divides the topic research trend into three types: growth,decline,and stability.The themes of growth,decline,and stability in Library Science and Information Science were reviewed and analyzed.Finally,the paper compares and analyzes the research trends of topic in Library Science and Information Science,and finds that that half of the topic in Library Science is in a downward research trend.The discipline has entered a mature period,and the growth point of the discipline needs to be cultivated urgently.However,most topics in Information Science still maintain a growth research trend,and the discipline is in a period of vigorous development.The research combines the topic model and word frequency analysis method to construct the topic popularity index,and uses it to analyze the trend of disciplinary topic research.This method calculates the word frequency based on the discovery of disciplinary topics by BTM,which solves the problem of strong subjectivity in traditional word frequency analysis.When calculating the Popularity value,the topic Popularity index goes deep into the term dimension and integrates the semantic information,so the evaluation result of disciplinary topic popularity index is more detailed and accurate.
