The terminology of Japanese ancient books appeared along with publishing activities,and generally reflected the publishing situation at that time.Japanese edition terminology is produced on the basis of absorbing Chinese edition terminology,and at the same time it is continuously expanded with the development of its own publishing activities,and finally forms an edition terminology system with its own characteristics.And this huge edition terminology system reflects all aspects of publishing culture and has become a window for observing Japanese publishing culture.This article aims to start from Japanese edition terminology,sort out the terminology,and verify its meaning,origin and evolution,so as to reflect the publishing situation of Japan in different eras.At the same time,it is compared with Chinese edition terminology to highlight the characteristics of Japanese edition terminology and publishing culture.This article is composed of introduction and three parts of the text.The introduction includes significance of research,previous studies,research methods and innovations.The first part of the main text briefly combs the development of Japanese edition according to time clues.The time span ranges from the Nara period when the edition began to the Edo period when publishing prevailed.Relying on edition terminology,introduces the publishing situation of each era,reflecting the development process of Japanese book publishing.The second part of the main text focuses on the discussion of Japanese edition terminology.Japanese edition terminology is divided into four parts,namely terminology of edition type,terminology of external morphology,terminology of internal morphology,and other edition terms.Each category is subdivided into several sub-categories,and each edition term is put into it by category.In the type of publication,it can be divided into woodblock printing and movable type printing according to the printing method,and can be divided into official printing,imperial printing,private printing,and commercial printing according to the publisher.According to the content of the publication,it can also be divided into reader,kana storybook,sarebon,comic book,novel,kusazosi,etc.External morphology includes book size,paper,cover and title,binding,etc.The internal morphology can be divided into page layout,flyleaf,advertisement,illustration,etc.In addition,it also includes other edition terms that are rooted in Japanese publishing culture,such as Pirate Edition and Prohibited Book.The third part of the main text discusses several aspects of Japanese publishing culture on the basis of edition terminology,including the geographical distribution,the overall situation of the publishers and readers,the alternation of woodblock printing and movable type printing,and the government intervention in the publishing industry,copyright consciousness and the role of the publishing companion,aiming to use edition terminology to illustrate the uniqueness of Japanese publishing culture.In addition,this article also contains an appendix.The first is the beginning and ending times of the various eras in Japan that appear in the article.The second is a concise dictionary of Japanese edition terminology,which explains the terms of some Japanese ancient books for readers' referenceThe innovation of this article is based on a large number of Japanese materials,combined with examples of the publication,to carry out a detailed discussion on the terminology of the Japanese publication.Then take the edition terminology as a clue to analyze several aspects of Japanese publishing culture and reveal the uniqueness of Japanese publishing culture.
