With the arrival of the information era,more and more enterprises have accumulated huge number of business data while widely using the information systems.If it is possible to collect all these data and do the proper consolidation and effective analysis,then the data will transform into useful information to the enterprises and become knowledge eventually to support the management and decision of the enterprises and realize the value of the data.As one of the solutions,business intelligence is able to help the enterprises to know better their situation in the past,present and future by the data to improve the decision-making process,reduce the cost,control the risks and explore the new business opportunities.In order to face the more and more difficult market environment and intensive competition brought by the economy globalization,more and more enterprises have chosen business intelligence during the digital transformation.However,contrary to the big enthusiasm on the investment on business intelligence,around 70% of the project of business intelligence cannot get the expected returns or can only generate limited values to the organization.This is because the implementation of business intelligence is not a simple system implementation but a complex process which is impacted by many factors like data quality,management process,support from the management,training on the knowledge and skills of employeesS Company is a fortune 500 company.And its procurement department is managing about 50,000 suppliers with annual spend around 10 billion Euro.There are problems like too many procurement information systems and isolated from each other,obsolescent systems that can not meet the business requirements in the procurement department.As part of digitalization strategy in the global supply chain,S Company decided to implement the business intelligence system at the end of 2015,expecting the implementation can connect the existing data and transform them into valuable information to improve the efficiency of the department and explore more business opportunities.The project team is consisted by senior business experts and technique experts in the procurement department of S Company.The implementation of the system covers spend analytics and forecasting as first stage and has a strict control on the data quality.However,it still meets problems like forecasting data cannot meet the business requirement due to the split of cross-function process on forecasting,inappropriate user authorization setting impacted system usage resulted from concern of management level due to data sharing and limited usage of the system due to lack of data analytic capability and skills from the employees.All these problems seemingly to be the system issues,show the issues in the management of the procurement department.After deep understanding and analysis,according to the root causes,the author raised the solution and methodology on setting up the aligned forecasting process,establishing and improving the internal control on information security and improving the data analytics related knowledge and skills.The paper first summarized the researches on the business intelligence implementation and procurement management and then summarizes background and current situation of the project implementation of business intelligence after the interviews and investigation with project implementation related people in the procurement department of S Company.After,it described the problems during the implementation and analyzed reason behind.In the end,it provided the solution related to the causes.For the moment,most of the researches within the country focus on the design and technical realization of the business intelligence system.And few of them focus on the adoption and deployment after the technical realization.The achievement of the paper can first provide reference to the next stage of business intelligence implementation for the procurement department of S Company to anticipate and prevent the same problems and better solve the problems possibly appear.The problems met during the implementation of the digitalization project are often problems on the enterprise management instead of pure technical problems.Hope also the paper can be used as a reference to provide a way of thinking on the solution for the people who want to implement or are in the progress of implementing the business intelligence system.
