This essay systematically analyzes National School Library Standards(2018)in the United States,and interprets its core concepts,content structure,integration framework and application evaluation On this basis,this essay summarizes the main characteristics and common beliefs of the standards,and compares it with School Library(Book Room)Regulations(2018)in China to provide reference and thinking for the current development of school library standards in China.National School Library Standards(2018)in the United States sets three sets of separate,standards(for learners,school librarians and school libraries)with six Shared Foundations(Inquire,Include,Collaborate,Curate,Explore,Engage)and four Domains(Think,Create,Share,Grow)into an integrative framework,within which each set of standards include Domains based on the Shared Foundations with a corresponding Competency.At the same time,each set of standards is equipped with detailed application evaluation.In general,National School Library Standards(201 8)in the United States have the main characteristics of common and consistent goals,continuous and compatible content,concise and integrated structure,detailed supporting applications,etc.It also covers the common beliefs that include:The reading skills and digital education are essential for learners,inclusive and collaboration lays the foundation for learners'continuous success and life-long growth,qualified librarians play multiple roles in the learning community,and the school library provides learners with multi-dimensional learning spaces and progressive environments.Through comparison,it is found that there are differences in the background,content,application,belief and professional response between School Library(Book Room)Regulations(2018)in China and National School Library Standards(2018)in the United States.On this basis,the enlightenment for the development of school library standards in China is proposed:First,the content of the standards should reflect the development goals agreed by the school library and its stakeholders,and have certain compatibility.Second,the system structure of standards should integrate the core elements and contents related to the growth of students,the development of librarians and the promotion of school library.Third,the formulation and organization of standards should be standardized and scientific,and equipped with a detailed and feasible measurement system and evaluation process to ensure the effectiveness of the implementation of the standards.
