With the development of cultural tourism and the rise of short video platforms,more and more tourists choose to record their journeys in the form of short videos,people's travel habits are quietly changing.Where are these changes happening? How do tourists use short video as a medium to present self-image and manage impressions in tourism practice? All are issues that deserve attention.Based on the concepts such as tourist gaze and tourist performance,this paper adopts the in-depth interview method,combined with the short video content provided by interviewees for text analysis,to explore the practice of tourists recording tourism activities by short videos.The study found that: First,as the "physical front-stage" of the tourist performance,the tourist destination's stage setting is not fixed,but is related to the tourist's tourist performance practices.Tourist destinations can not only guide tourists to gaze,but also reallocate the resources of the scenic area according to the performance of tourists.At the same time,the short video platform has built a "virtual front-stage" for tourists' tourist performance outside the physical space,and this virtual stage provides a more open space for tourists to present themselves.Second,there are three basic components of the "time-space framework","character shaping" and "performance props" in the theater of tourist performances.The study of the constituent components provides a framework for analyzing the tourists 'short video performance practices.Third,tourists have three types of specific motives: "aesthetic","game" and "social relations" when creating short videos,which correspond to three different performance methods.But in the course of a complete travel practice,the motivation for travel and the motivation for using short videos to record the journey will not be single.The integration of different motives also brings a combination of different performance methods.Fourth,the self-image presented by tourists in the tourism short videos is "performed".Meanwhile,they can manage their self-impressions by independently choosing the sharing channels and scopes to avoid the performance disruptions.In general,tourists 'short video performance practices have penetrated into the entire travel process.From obtaining travel information,to recording the travel process,and then to making and publishing short videos for impression management,the participation of short videos in tourism practice has gradually increased.Short videos help tourists to consolidate their journeys and memories,and people's desire to capture memories with short videos has further promoted the vigorous development of short videos.
