The rise of Io T market has drawn more attention to wireless sensor network.Sensor nodes own the characteristics of limited power supply and insufficient ability of computing.The period of the network services is an important factor in service quality.On the other hand,due to the rapid development of hardware technology and cryptographic algorithms,we need to study the power consumption of sensor nodes under new hardware platforms and optimize the protocols based on the characteristics of wireless sensor networks.As far as the power consumption issue in wireless sensor network is concerned,we designed a hardware platform to study the power consumption of various cryptographic algorithms and key management schemes.Firstly,the components and features of the wireless sensor network are described,and the security threats and corresponding defense mechanisms it faces are summarized.The software and hardware factors affecting the power consumption of the sensor nodes are analyzed in detail.Then,the functional requirements of the sensor nodes are analyzed.Based on the low-power microprocessor STM32L051K8T6 hardware platform and the corresponding measuring platform,the cost of the platform is studied.Finally,based on this hardware platform,the performance of several cryptographic algorithms and key management schemes are quantitatively studied.Compared with the ATmega128 L platform,the hardware platform designed in this paper has reduced the power consumption by four-fifths.We compare the cost of four symmetric encryption algorithms AES,DES,ARC4 and Chacha20,which concludes that Chacha20 costs the lowest,which is 86.4% lower than ARC4 under the same circumstances.Meanwhile,the commonly used asymmetry encryption algorithms,ECC and RSA,is studied in the platform.Under the premise of providing equal or better security,the cost of ED25519 signing operation is decreased by 97.2% compared to RSA-2048,while X25519 can provide the same level of service at half the cost of ECC-256 in the case of key exchange.With the simplified protocol and certificate format,the period of the network services can be extended that the certificatebased key agreement model can perform about 136,000 key agreement operations using proven technology.
