In recent years,Chinese culture and Chinese fever have been rapidly rising up on a global scale. The Philippines, which is a close neighbor of China,is also a patriot of Chinese culture.According to the facts, since 1899,Chinese language teaching has taken root in the Philippines, but at that time Chinese education was mainly for Filipino-Chinese people. With the rise of China's great power, its economy and culture have become more and more important overseas.Overseas Chinese learning is no longer just for Chinese nationals and Philippines is not an exception. The number of people learning Chinese is increasing, not just for Filipino-Chinese but also to the basic education system of the public primary schools in the Philippines.Since 2011,when Chinese was included in the Special Program for Foreign Language of the Department of Education of the Philippines,Chinese became a foreign language course in the basic education system of the Philippines. As a course, teachers and students have begun to pay more and more attention to Chinese.Although Chinese has been incorporated into the basic education system of the Philippines, there is still a lack of a complete and systematic Chinese teaching plan and planning. This paper analyzes the situation of 79 public schools,YCT examination in the Philippines and combines the Chinese teaching in Don Jesus Gonzales High School to understand the current situation of Chinese teaching in public schools in the Philippines and identify the current problems of Chinese teaching with regards to the course, local teachers, teaching methods, learners, and the use of textbooks. The main problems identified by the author are: insufficient Chinese class hours, unclear curriculum settings, unspecific teaching requirements, differences in the subject specialization of local Chinese teachers, insufficient Chinese proficiency, humongous teaching burdens and tasks, insufficient training, and teaching methods focusing on translation as a result of the extensive use of interlanguage, weak desire of students' desire to learn Chinese, lack of attention in learning, the language of teaching materials is not uniform and the content is impractical. Finally, through the analysis of these problems, the author puts forward some specific suggestions such as improving the teaching hours of Chinese teaching, the special division of Chinese language subject and culture subject, quantitative evaluation of the training and its effect to teachers, using Filipino,English or dialect to assist teaching and the selection of textbooks or annotation languages for textbooks should consider the level of the learners themselves.
