| With the return of Hong Kong and the advent of the21st century, Hong Kong started a new curriculum reform since2000.The reform of history education, as a part of the whole picture, needs to cooperate with other parts and continues to play its own role as a superiority branch of learning domain. My thesis has two main missions in which I want to introduce the history education reform. One mission will be put emphasis on the status of history education in HK’s curriculum system, and the other mission will be concentrated on the distinguishing features in the arrangement of contents, which are worth using for reference to support the history education reform of the China’s mainland.In the first part, I will give an outline of the situation of history education before the return of Hong Kong and after the new education reform. The second part is to argue the status of history education. Actually, the status of the course of history which was one of the core courses at first is lower and lower. Finally they even can’t be an independent subject in the junior schools. Meanwhile, the course of history is one of the elective courses in senior high school, but the number of students who elect the course has been on the tendency of decreasing. The space of history education in middle school is quite compressed, which leads to a very negative situation. The third part is about HK’s history education’s distinguishing features, mainly including the selection and arrangement of contents, and the form and method of teaching. |
