In the "2004 Policy Address", Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang announced the decision of adopting a new senior secondary academic structure ("334"). A 3-year junior secondary,3-year senior secondary and 4-year undergraduate academic system will replace the old Academic Structure which is 3-year junior secondary,2-year senior secondary,2-year advanced level and 3-year undergraduate.On the "334 Report" (The New Academic Structure for Senior Secondary Education and Higher Education- Action Plan for Investing in the Future of Hong Kong). The Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) announced the new academic structure and the NSS Curriculum will be implemented in 2009. At the same time, EMB stipulated that "Liberal Studies" will be a core subject and assessed like the subject of Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematic in the NSS curriculum. Thus, "Liberal Studies" will be a unique and necessary requirement for admission into universities.The Subject of "Liberal Studies" is a vital and essential element of the new senior secondary academic structure reform. The establishment of the discipline, aims to fulfill and in line with the vision and prospect of Hong Kong in the new century. The place and design of "Liberal Studies" have aroused great public interest, especially in educational and academic field. The introduction of new curriculum means new challenges to school administration management, teacher quality and student learning method respectively. It is recommended that provide countermeasures in order to eliminate the confusion and pressure from stakeholders, let the new curriculum proceed as plannedThis thesis named "Prospective study on implementing the subject of Liberal Studies in the new senior secondary curriculum in Hong Kong, aims to have a comprehensive study of "Liberal Studies" which is a compulsory core subject of new senior secondary curriculum in Hong Kong. The study includes investigating theories and practice of the aspect on curriculum planning, assessment and examination and curriculum development. By analyzing the policy background and reason of planning, those becoming a fundamental base to research "liberal studies" educational theories, such as the theoretical origins, the learning and teaching method and assessment and examination. More importantly, a prospective analysis is needed to indicate the difficulties that three kinds of stakeholders including schools, teachers and students will encounter during process. Accordingly, it is vital that provide solutions and recommendations.
