| As the only country in the world with a complete Chinese education system except Chinese mainland,Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan,Malaysian Chinese education has unique development experience.As the organization of Chinese education in Malaysia,The United Chinese School Teachers’ Association of Malaysia(UCSTAM)has had a profound impact on Chinese education in Malaysia since its establishment in 1951.With China moving towards the center of the world stage,the call for building concentric circles of Chinese people at homeland and abroad is getting higher and higher,and Chinese education is an important link to connect Chinese people at homeland and abroad.Therefore,promoting the research and development of Chinese education has become one of the most important tasks in the new era.On the basis of reviewing and sorting out all kinds of historical materials about the UCSTAM,this paper uses historical approach and content analysis method,divides the 70-year history of UCSTAM into six stages for the first time:the initial exploration stage from 1951 to 1960,the struggle for survival stage from 1961 to 1973,the development stage of helping Chinese primary and secondary schools from 1974 to 1983,the improvement stage of Chinese education system from 1984 to 1999,the stage of consolidating the achievements of Chinese education development from 2000 to 2010,and the stage of comprehensively improving the quality of Chinese education from 2011 to now.Throughout the six development stages,this paper summarizes the far-reaching influence of the UCSTAM on Chinese education policy,teachers in Chinese schools,quality of Chinese education and cultural inheritance,and sums up the main ways and characteristics of the UCSTAM’s influence on the development of Chinese education.In terms of Chinese education policy,the UCSTAM expresses the demands of the Chinese community in words by means of issuing statements and submitting official letters,and gathers the strength to support the development of Chinese education through assembly to strive for a reasonable position for Chinese education;In addition,through carrying out a series of investigations and studies,the problems in Chinese education are reflected in time,and the government is urged to pay attention to them.On the issue of teachers in Chinese schools,on the one hand,the UCSTAM submitted official letters to urge the government to solve the shortage of teachers,on the other hand,it organized Chinese schools to pay for hiring temporary teachers.In addition,the UCSTAM also vigorously promoted teacher training courses,and encouraged more Chinese children to apply for normal colleges and become primary and secondary school teachers in Chinese schools in the future.In the aspect of education quality,the UCSTAM organized a series of teacher education activities to improve the overall level of teachers in Chinese schools,and promotes advances educational concepts to build a good education and teaching environment.In addition,in recent years,the UCSTAM has actively promoted the reform of Chinese education,striving to implement quality education emphasizing multiple intelligences and balanced development.In terms of cultural inheritance,the UCSTAM has paid more and more attention to the importance of inheriting national culture since the new century.Strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China and holding various cultural activities are two major ways for the UCSTAM to promote cultural inheritance.From the current implementation effect,the UCSTAM has made very excellent achievements in inheriting and carrying forward the traditional culture of the Chinese nation.In the course of nearly 70 years’ development,the UCSTAM has always been goal oriented,resolutely safeguarding the development of Chinese education in Malaysia,striving for the reasonable position of Chinese and Chinese education,and actively guarding Chinese culture.Judging from the current development of Chinese education in Malaysia,the work of the UCSTAM in maintaining and developing Chinese education in Malaysia is fruitful.In daily work,the influence of the UCSTAM is very extensive,involving various elements of the external environment and internal essence of Chinese education.It can be said that the influence of the UCSTAM has been deeply imprinted on all aspects of Chinese education in Malaysia.In addition,looking back at history,the contribution and influence of the UCSTAM on Malaysian Chinese education has never stopped.The UCSTAM has not only given new life to Malaysian Chinese education,but also led Malaysian Chinese education to a brand-new development stage. |
