Since the 1990 s,the famous American Marxist scholar James O'Connor has reconstructed Marx 's historical materialism under the background of rapid economic development and the destruction of ecological and environmental resources. The contemporary "dual crisis" theory with far-reaching influence.Through a lot of in-depth research,James O'Connor in the representative work "Nature's Reason" based on the first contradiction of the interaction between productivity and production relations, innovatively pointed out that the second contradiction of capitalism is Productivity, production relations and production conditions are produced under the combined action.O'Connor also explained in the book that due to the interaction of double contradictions,it triggered the double crisis under the capitalist system, namely the economic crisis and the ecological crisis.James O'Connor saw the ecological problems in the development of capitalism and pointed out that the development of ecological socialism needed to improve and change the capitalist system.Based on this, this article takes O'Connor's dual crisis theory as the subject and focuses on the following three aspects of research: The first part discusses the background and practical background of James O'Connor's "dual crisis" theory. The second part is based on James O'Connor's book "Nature's Reasons",and analyzes and interprets the theoretical content of "dual crisis" from two aspects: double contradiction and double crisis. On the basis of the first two chapters, the third part expounds the contributions and limitations of the "dual crisis" theory,as well as the major enlightenment brought to the development and construction of China's contemporary era.
