A Study Of James O’Connor’s Ecological Marxism

Ecology Marxism is one of the important theoretical thoughts of today’s western Marxism.It has its unique historical conditions and theoretical basis.James O’Connor is an important representative of ecology of Marxism.The O’Connor’s Ecology of Marxism consists of three parts:First,on the basis of the traditional historical materialism theory,join the natural and cultural categories,which can be able to reconstruct the historical materialism and structure the construction of natural,cultural,social labor;Secondly,O’Connor on the basis of the first contradiction of capitalism,that is,the contradiction between productivity and production relations,O’Connor puts forward the second contradiction of capitalism,that is,the contradiction between productive force,production relations and production conditions,and criticizes capitalist’s mode of production;Finally,O’Connor combines ecology and socialism,and puts forward the idea of ecological socialism.Although O’Connor ’s thoughts has some shortcomings,but it provides a way to solve the ecological crisis.O’Connor’s thought in the whole has a very important theoretical significance,however,it also points out the direction for our ecological problems and ecological civilization construction.
