As an outstanding representative of ecological socialism in the 1990s,James O'Connor and Joel Kovel have made important contributions to the development and progress of ecological socialism.contribution.The two of them inherited and developed Marx and Engels' thoughts, combined with the background of the era at that time, conducted a comprehensive analysis of the ecological problems arising in the process of capitalist development, and stood in their own different perspectives on the defects of traditional ecological socialism.Different opinions, through the investigation and analysis of various factors, produced the root causes of ecological problems and proposed innovative ideas with their own characteristics for the concept of ecological socialism in the future.Their ideas and theories have solved the ecological crisis that is currently facing. The issue has important guiding significance. In constructing a new theoretical framework of ecological socialism:O'Connor focuses on reconstructing the ecological dimension of historical materialism, and from an ecological point of view,it completely constructs traditional historical materialism and breaks the traditional narrow historical materialism. The vision in the ecological dimension compensates for the lack of ecological issues in traditional historical materialism and makes new historical materialism more comprehensive and meticulous.Kovel is critical and criticizes eco-philosophy for ecological reformism. In the aspect of ecological socialism in the future,O'Connor's attitude is relatively conservative. The ecological improvement advocated by him is within the capitalist system.Kovel's attitude is relatively tough. He advocated the revolution and believed that only through a complete and absolute revolution can we fundamentally abolish the current capitalist system and build a new capitalist system that meets the needs of the development of the times..The article compares and analyzes Oconnor's and Kovel's ecological socialism theory, seeks differences in the same way, seeks differences in similarities, and explores the positive significance of the two ecological socialism theories for solving current ecological and environmental problems.
