Research On The Dissemination Of Disaster Warning Information By The Indonesian Meteorological Department And Its Cooperative Media Agencies

In the last decade,Indonesia has been hit by several earthquakes and tsunamis with enormous damage and casualties.One of them is Aceh Province.Public knowledge about disasters has begun to increase since the Aceh tsunami disaster in2004,however,this knowledge has not yet become the attitude,behavior and culture that links their life with disasters.For this reason,the Aceh Meteorology,Climatology and Geophysics Agency(BMKG)as the institution that is obliged to deliver early warnings must have a powerful strategy,so that early warning can be accepted by all levels of society.Likewise,the media,as a partner institution for BMKG,must also play a role so that access to public information about early warnings and updates on disaster information can easily be obtained.The formulation of the problem in this study is how the Aceh BMKG strategy in delivering earthquake and tsunami early warnings,how the media communication strategy of the Aceh BMKG partners in delivering earthquake and tsunami early warnings and how the community's testimony of earthquake and tsunami early warning information by BMKG Aceh and its media partners.This research uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation,interviews.Based on the research results,it shows that BMKG Aceh has several supporting facilities to convey early warning information,the most conventional is using the WRS tool,through this tool all disaster information can be known.Apart from using the WRS device,the Aceh BMKG provides early warnings using SMS,the Whats App group,Telegram,and those in the Aceh BMKG vulnerable zone have installed tsunami sirens as an alarm when a large earthquake occurs.Meanwhile,radio as a media partner of BMKG Aceh also has a role in delivering early warnings.The strategy used was to broadcast as much as possible the earthquake information obtained from BMKG Aceh in a news format.Apart from early warning information,radio media also updated the situation after the earthquake and tsunami disaster occurred.The community's testimony to the early warnings delivered by BMKG Aceh and the media shows that people in disaster-prone areas feel helped by the disaster information that has been conveyed by BMKG.However,for radio media,the information rarely reaches the public because currently the public's penchant for listening to radio broadcasts is very low,people prefer to access disaster information using the internet media.
